Bellator light heavyweight Tito Ortiz is furious with the UFC after calling Jon Jones the most successful 205-pounder in company history on Saturday night.
“Bones” notched his 14 win inside the Octagon after a masterful performance against Glover Teixeira at UFC 172 on Saturday and the UFC proclaimed the dominant champ the best light heavyweight the sport had seen, statistically.
Well, that didn’t sit well with the self-proclaimed “People’s Champion,” who actually has 15 victories under the UFC banner to his credit.
Ortiz tweeted his displeasure about the subject early Sunday morning:
“Now I'm being erased from @ufc history! Wow that is low! It will come back three fold. Sorry fans. @espn @foxsports,” he wrote.
Prior to Jones breaking the record at UFC 165 in September, Ortiz held the UFC record for most consecutive successful title defenses (five).
Unfortunately for the 39-year-old, he hasn’t been a relevant fighter since October 2006, with a putrid 1-7-1 record since that time.
Ortiz retired after a UFC 148 loss to Forrest Griffin in July 2012, but ended up signing with Bellator one year later.
He was set to debut with the promotion in November against fellow ex-UFC champ Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but withdrew due to a neck injury.
Ortiz is again scheduled to return to the cage at Bellator 120, the company’s first pay-per-view event.
Alexander Shlemenko, the promotion’s middleweight champion, will bump up a weight class to fight the UFC Hall of Famer at the May 17 card.
