UFC on FOX 11 has added two blockbuster matchups for the April 19 event at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida.
The UFC’s official Twitter page revealed on Monday night that the nationally televised event will be headlined by a heavyweight bout between top contenders Travis Browne and Fabricio Werdum, which is expected to be a title eliminator.
Additionally, two recent women’s bantamweight title challengers will square off in Miesha Tate and Liz Carmouche.
Browne, declared the “Breakthrough Fighter of the Year” by various media outlets in 2013, notched three “Knockout of the Night” performances in a row last year, including a spectacular come-from-behind victory over former Strikeforce/K-1 champ Alistair Overeem.
Meanwhile, Werdum is also boasting a three-fight win streak, most recently submitting fellow highly-regarded submission ace Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC on FUEL 10 in June.
As far as the women’s bantamweights go, Carmouche could be in a must-win situation against “Cupcake,” as she is just 1-2 inside the Octagon, getting soundly outstruck by Strikeforce import Alexis Davis at UFC: Fight for the Troops 3 in November.
However, it can be argued no one in the UFC’s women’s division needs a win more than Tate, who has lost three of her past four bouts – though two losses came out the hands of dominant champion Ronda Rousey.
At UFC 168 late last month, Tate shared “Fight of the Night” honors with Rousey for becoming the first female to push the champ past the first round. Tate still ended up losing via an armbar – the same result as their initial encounter in March 2012.
