UFC 168 Weigh-In Results: Diego Brandao Misses Weight by 8 Pounds

As scheduled, UFC 168 will have two title fights, and out of the 22 competitors on the card, only one lost the battle with the weigh-in scale.

Diego Brandao, the winner of season 14 of The Ultimate Fighter, will still open up the main card tonight with a bout with former top contender Dustin Poirier, but he missed weight by a mile so the contest will not take place at featherweight.

Brandao tipped the scale at 153 pounds, a whopping eight pounds over the featherweight (145 pounds) limit.

The Brazilian prospect was given two hours to attempt to shed the weight, but only managed to get down to 151.5 pounds.

As a result, “The Diamond” will receive an undisclosed percentage of Brandao’s fight purse, regardless how the fight plays out. In the past, fighters who miss weight typically forfeit 20 percent of their fight purse.

In the co-main event of the evening, both champion Ronda Rousey and challenger Miesha Tate weighed in at 135 pounds flat, culminating in a serious Rousey throwing her hands up with a serious face on, while the ex-Strikeforce titleholder smiled and seemed to be enjoying herself.

For the pay-per-view event’s headlining bout, middleweight champ Chris Weidman came in at 184 pounds, while longtime middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva, looking more muscular than usual, moved the scale at 185 pounds.

UFC 168 takes place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with a featherweight tilt, which will be one of two bouts streamed online for free, between Esteven Payan and Robert Peralta kicking off the event at 7 p.m. Eastern Time.
