UFC Fight Night 51: Andrei Arlovski Enters Title Picture with KO over ‘Bigfoot’

Despite being seen as on the downswing of his career at 35 years old, former UFC heavyweight champion Andrei Arlovski showed he’s still got it with vicious knockout over Antonio Silva on Saturday.

Both fighters were content to keep the fight standing and while both competitors landed clean shots early in the contest, but “The Pitbull” had a clear speed advantage that allowed him to pick up the pace early.

After landing a clean right hand just three minutes into the matchup, Arlovski finished off “Bigfoot” after landing some brutal hammer fists on the ground.

The Belarusian slugger avenged a clear-cut May 2010 loss to Silva and has now quietly put together a four-fight win streak.

As a matter of fact, dating back to August 2011, Arlovski has compiled a solid 8-1(1) record.

Meanwhile, Silva, who unsuccessfully challenged for the UFC heavyweight title in May of last year, has now not tasted victory in 19 long months.

Including the loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 160, the Brazilian is now a paltry 0-2(1) in his past three fights.

Entering the matchup, Silva was No. 4 in the UFC’s official heavyweight rankings, while Arlovski was No. 14 on the list.

Now, all of a sudden, Arlovski could feasibly be just one win away from a title shot.
