British slugger Dan “The Outlaw” Hardy could not get approved by the California State Athletic Commissioner for his welterweight scrap with Matt Brown next month, so Jordan Mein has decided to step in.
MMA Fighting reported the news first on Thursday.
Initially reported as being injured, Hardy to Twitter to explain that the CSAC would not clear him of a medical condition he refers to as a “wolf heart:”
“Sorry guys, I couldn't be more disappointed. Turns out I have a wolf heart and the California commission won't clear me to fight... Wolf heart = two heart beats. It's an evolutionary enhancement and the commission see it as an unfair advantage.”
Filling in for the former UFC welterweight title challenger is Mein, a Strikeforce import, who has won three in a row, as well as nine of his past 10 bouts.
Mein made his promotion debut at UFC 158 last week, being the first man to stop Dan Miller inside the cage via a TKO.
After losing four of his past five fights between March 2010 and Nov. 2011, Brown has improbably bounced back to win four in a row, including three knockouts.
All four of “The Immortal’s” recent wins came during the 2012 calendar year, a rarely seen feat inside the Octagon.
Despite being a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Brown generally likes to stand and bang with his opponents, something Mein should be more than happy to oblige him with.
The winner of this fight has a strong case for a top 10 opponent in their next match up.
