UFC News: Nick Diaz and Josh Koscheck Angling to Fight Each Other Early Next Year

Two of the most polarizing figures in the UFC’s welterweight division want to scrap, with one fighter preferring the bout to take place during the promotion’s annual Super Bowl card in February.

This past weekend, Nick Diaz’s head trainer Cesar Gracie told the Brazilian MMA media outlet Tatame that the elder Diaz brother would like to fight a former title contender Josh Koscheck as his next opponent (translation via Google Translate).

“Personally, I like the option of him fighting Koscheck, a guy who is very popular here in the United States, has great public recognition," Gracie said.

"Everyone knows who he is, especially here. Demian Maia is a great fighter, I think [he] would also be a great opponent, but here in America, [he] is not as popular as Koscheck. So I think Nick probably will face Josh Koscheck in his return to the octagon."

Koscheck, who recently showcased his outspoken personality on the reality series “Fight Factory,” immediately took to Twitter to personally accept the challenge.

"Cesar is calling 4 me the fight Diaz in Feb. Super Bowl weekend! What you guy think? I am DOWN! Don't be scared Homie! #559 lol,” Koscheck tweeted, mocking Diaz’s signature catch phrase.

As enticing as the match up is, it is extremely unlikely it goes down during the Feb. 2 pay-per-view event. Diaz is still serving a suspension from the Nevada State Athletic Commissions, which is up on Feb. 4, for testing positive for marijuana metabolites after his interim title fight with Carlos Condit at UFC 137 in Oct. of last year.

The match up is very realistic though, as Diaz is coming off of a loss to Condit and Koscheck most recently lost a close split decision to Johny Hendricks at UFC on FOX 3 in May.

Given that both fighter’s are likely no more than two wins away from a title, how interesting would a Diaz vs. Koscheck bout be early next year?
