UFC News: Rashad Evans turned down UFC 153 Fight with Glover Teixeira

Add former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans to the group of fighters that have no interest in a bout with surging Brazilian prospect Glover Teixeira.

Speaking on the UFC on FUEL 5 post-fight show, “Suga” explained that he just wasn’t offered the bout with enough time to prepare for the UFC 153 card, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (via MMA Fighting).

“They (the UFC) offered me a fight, but it was against Glover Teixeira and I only had three weeks to fight and I haven't been training. I was like, ‘no way, not with that notice in Brazil.'"

Evans also revealed that UFC president Dana White wanted to see him fight before the end of the year, but the former Michigan State Spartan would prefer a return date in January of February.

The winner of season 2 of “The Ultimate Fighter” has been on the shelf since losing a title fight to current 205-pound kingpin/former training partner Jon Jones at UFC 145 in April.

Teixeira was originally scheduled to face another former champion in his home country, Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, but he was force to withdraw from the bout due to an elbow injury.

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua and Stephan Bonnar were also offered the fight with Teixeira, but both those fighters declined the possible match up.

That likely did not work out in their favor though, as Shogun takes on another rising prospect in Alexander Gustaffson at UFC on FOX 5 in December, while “The American Psycho” now headlines UFC 153 in an improbably light heavyweight clash against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

When the smoke settled, fellow Brazilian Fabio Maldonado offered to fight Teixeira and the UFC made the fight official.

Are fighters too quick to turn down certain bouts these days or are mixed martial artists simply more business-like by picking and choosing which match ups make the most sense for them?
