UFC News: Ronda Rousey vs. Liz Carmouche Set for First Women’s Title Fight At UFC 157

Fans did not have to wait particularly long to have Ronda Rousey’s first title defense in the Octagon formally announced.

UFC president Dana White told various media outlets present at a UFC on FOX 5 pre-event press conference in Seattle that “Rowdy” will put her UFC women’s bantamweight title on the line against Liz Carmouche at UFC 157 in February (via MMA Junkie).

"I didn't even know about this till this morning," Rousey said. “I don't even know what to make of it. It means a lot, and we have a lot to prove. I think the women are here to stay, and I think we're going to prove it."

The former Olympic bronze medalist in Judo heads to the Octagon with an undefeated 6-0 record, winning all of her fights with a first round armbar.

Carmouche entered a Strikeforce title fight against Marloes Coenen in March of last year with a perfect 5-0 record, getting submitted by Coenen in the fourth round after a back and forth fight. She then lost her next fight to Sarah Kaufman via unanimous decision in July.

However, she rebounded with back-to-back wins over Ashleigh Curry and Kaitlin Young under the Invicta banner, finishing both opponents.

UFC 157 takes place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California on Feb. 23, likely two include other high-profile match ups in the form of Dan Henderson vs. Lyoto Machida and Urijah Faber vs. Ivan Menjivar.

Does Carmouche stand a chance against Rousey or is she just another victim destined to get armbarred?
