Former WEC light heavyweight champion Brian Stann has no issue with the UFC/FOX Sports releasing Chael Sonnen from his broadcasting contract on Monday and he isn’t shy about making his opinion known.
When asked by a fan on Twitter what he thought of Sonnen being made an example of, “The All-American” didn’t have an issue responding.
The response made it seem like a tweet moments earlier was a shot at Sonnen’s character.
Sonnen was fired by the UFC/FOX Sports on Monday after failing his second random drug test in two weeks for banned substances.
Stann fought Sonnen at UFC 136 in October 2011, losing by submission in the second round after being unable to deal with “The American Gangster’s” highly-touted grappling game.
Shortly thereafter, Stann and Sonnen were frequently co-analysts on FOX Sports 1 programming such as UFC Tonight.
As it turns out, Stann said back in April that he believed performance-enhancing drug use in MMA was a lot more prevalent in the sport than most pundits believed.
He went as far as to state he decided to retire because he was leaving his body open to long term damage by repeatedly fighting opponents who used PEDs.
Stann retired just under a year ago during an episode of Ariel Helwani’s The MMA Hour.
