Undefeated Prospect Jimi Manuwa Takes on Alexander Gustafsson in March

Looks like UFC President Dana White wasn’t joking when he said undefeated prospect Jimi Manuwa would face a step up in competition in his next UFC bout.

“Poster Boy” takes on top contender Alexander Gustafsson in the UFC’s return to London in March, as MMA Junkie reported on Tuesday.

Manuwa is 14-0 as a professional mixed martial artist, all finishes, including three straight TKO’s inside the Octagon.

However, he is yet to face a truly elite opponent and he certainly gets that in “The Mauler.”

The rangy Swedish striker is coming off a blistering “Fight of the Year” performance when he went back-and-forth against UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones at UFC 165 last month.

Although Gustafsson lost the bout by split decision, his precise striking and underrated wrestling (both offensive and defensive) pushed “Bones” to the limit, with many pundits believing he narrowly edged out the dominant champion by a margin of three rounds to two.

Prior to his title bout, the 26-year-old had won six straight bouts, including four finishes.

Furthermore, according to the UFC’s official rankings, Gustafsson is still the top ranked light heavyweight contender in the world.

The event, which remains unnamed for the time being, will take place at London’s O2 Arena on March 8 and will air on the FOX Sports 2 network.

Gustafsson was originally set to take on Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at the same event, but “Lil’ Nog” pulled out of the event last week – about five months before the matchup was scheduled to take place.

Can Manuwa shock the world at take out one of the top contenders in the UFC right now or will Gustafsson add another impressive stoppage win to his already lengthy highlight reel?
