UFC contenders Vitor Belfort and Dan Henderson have been issued testosterone replacement therapy-use exemptions for UFC Fight Night 32, MMA Junkie reported on Thursday.
The bout takes place in front of Belfort’s countrymen in Goiania, Brazil, which in itself has drawn the ire of some fans since “The Phenom” hasn’t fought on American soil since August 2011.
That doesn’t sit well with pundits who point to the 17-year fight veteran’s career renaissance and toned, muscular physique as evidence he is abusing TRT.
Nevertheless, UFC President Dana White has scoffed at this notion numerous times, stating that he would never “protect” or “hide” a fighter using performance-enhancing drugs.
On that note, White recently said Belfort, who is currently ranked number 2 in the UFC’s official rankings, would like fight the winner of Chris Weidman vs. Anderson Silva at UFC 168 this December – as long as he can get past “Hendo.”
Henderson defeated Belfort by utilizing his wrestling advantage back at Pride 32 in October 2006, where coincidentally, the hard-hitting Brazilian failed his post-fight drug test for elevated levels of testosterone.
However, Henderson is arguably on the decline at 43 years old, as he has lost consecutive split decisions to former champions in Lyoto Machida and Rashad Evans.
On the other hand, Belfort has scored back-to-back headkick knockouts over perennial contender Michael Bisping and ex-Strikeforce champ Luke Rockhold.
Will Henderson be able to replicate his performance from seven years ago or will Belfort’s aggressive and unorthodox striking be too much for his American counterpart to handle this time around?
