UFC middleweight title contender Vitor Belfort has practically fallen off the planet since he was removed from his UFC 175 title bout … that is until now.
“The Phenom” spoke to MMA Fighting Saturday morning stating that despite no longer being allowed to use testosterone replacement therapy since it was banned by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in February, he’s ready to fight again.
"I did all the tests that Nevada requires," Belfort said. "I did it on my own, and I passed them all. There is nothing in my system anymore. God has blessed me. I’m ready now, and I’m waiting.”
"Since they canceled (Weidman vs. Machida) in May, there is nothing else to do. Give me what is mine.”
Belfort remains a top target of criticism among fans since he has never released the results of his February 7 drug test administered by the NSAC.
While he was still scheduled to fight Weidman at the time, he was not yet licensed by the NSAC, so Belfort is the only one who can release the results publicly.
Belfort, an open TRT user in recent years, hasn’t fought on American soil since he knocked out Yoshihiro Akiyama at UFC 133 in August 2011.
Since then, the 37-year-old slugger has compiled a 4-1 record, with his only loss coming in a short-notice title bout against light heavyweight champ Jon Jones in September 2012.
Belfort currently boasts a three-fight win streak, all knockouts, over upper echelon competition in Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
Will Belfort be able to re-enter the title picture without TRT or will he become just another fighter without the controversial treatment?
