Former Pride champion Wanderlei Silva is beyond confident heading into his May grudge match with American counterpart Chael Sonnen.
Speaking to MSN Esportes, translation per Bloody Elbow, “The Axe Murderer” summed up the upcoming light heavyweight scrap in a very quick fashion.
"Sonnen can use whatever he wants. For my sake, he can use TRT, even TNT. I will kick his ass anyway," Silva said.
Sonnen and Silva have been talking trash back-and-forth for the better part of two years and their feud came to a head during the filming of season 3 of The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil, where they are head coaching opposite one another.
According to promo videos hyping up the upcoming season of TUF, as well as various media reports, Sonnen and Silva had an unplanned physical confrontation as the cameras were rolling.
Both sides are adamant that the tussle was unscripted and not a scheduled part of the reality show.
Sonnen is 3-3 in his past six bouts and is just 1-2 since returning to the light heavyweight division in April.
While Silva has been inconsistent since returning to the Octagon in December 2007 (4-5), the Brazilian bomber delivered a vintage knockout when he returned to Japan last March to square off with Brian Stann.
Will Silva’s aggressive striking be too much for “The American Gangster” to handle or will Sonnen’s expert takedowns and top control be overwhelming for his longtime rival?
