Wanderlei Silva: UFC Said They Would Sue if I Did Bellator Event

Former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva has released another video slamming the UFC, claiming that his most recent employer threatened to sue him if he appeared at a Bellator autograph signing earlier this month.

In another infamous black and white tirade released on his YouTube page Friday, “The Axe Murderer” said the UFC is hell bent on preventing him from making a living outside of the Octagon (transcription per MMA Fighting).

"I am retired, I don't fight anymore, I lost the desire," Silva said  "So what stops me from generating income now? Are these people going to keep threatening me?”

"They'll keep coming to sue me every time I work with my image? How is that going to be? This is a shame. These guys are doing things above the law. Because the law clearly states that every person is free to come and go. And they want to take that away from the athletes? How is that?”

Bellator announced that Silva would be part of a Bellator 131 autograph signing about two weeks ago that included fellow UFC pioneers Royce Gracie, Randy Couture and Frank Shamrock.

However, less than 24 hours later, Bellator said that Silva would not able to participate in the event due to contract obligations.

Silva was slapped with a precedent-setting lifetime ban by the Nevada State Athletic Commission in September, after he admitted to refusing a random drug test in May.

The MMA legend has since expressed an interest in fighting again in either Japan or his native Brazil, though remains inactive inside the car since scoring a vintage knockout over Brian Stann at UFC on FUEL 8 last March.
