Greg Jackson’s MMA, home of former UFC heavyweight champ Andrei Arlovski, are claiming that “The Pitbull” suffered a broke jaw against Anthony Johnson after round 1 should have been over.
The two squared off last week at World Series of Fighting 2 at the Revel casino in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
According to a Facebook post from Jackson’s MMA Tuesday, the camp is arguing that the near finish by “Rumble” at the end of the first round actually occurred after the five- minute stanza should have ended.
“The NJ athletic commission was worried about the World Series of Fighting getting a new canvas and new corner pads for the cage they almost canceled the fight Saturday night,” the post begins.
“Unfortunately they forgot to get a time keeper that was trained properly. 1st round 5min 8 sec in the Andrei fight. A devastating blow was landed after the 5min mark. It's amazing how so much time is spent with over regulating but the simple things can cost dearly.”
Despite the devastating injury, Arlovski continued to scrap for the next two rounds, losing a closely-contested 29-28 unanimous decision on all three judges’ scorecards.
The loss was a brutal one for the UFC and Strikeforce veteran, as he was on an impressive 4-0-1 run in his past five fights after suffering four straight losses prior to that.
The victory was a nice feather in Johnson’s cap, a former UFC welterweight, extending his winning streak to five consecutive bouts.
Neither Johnson nor the World Series of Fighting addressed the allegation as of late Thursday evening.
