World Series of Fighting welterweight Ryan Ford has been hit with one of the strangest suspensions in MMA history on Wednesday.
The hard-hitting journeyman was handed down a six-month suspension by the Edmonton Combative Sports Commission for failing to disclose he entered his WSOF 14 main event with Jake Shields with a broken arm, as MMA Junkie first reported.
ECSC Executive Director Pat Reid confirmed the suspension to MMA Junkie, adding that Ford has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
Furthermore, Ford told the media outlet via text message that he would not appeal the suspension, but found it amusing since “guys go into fights always injured,” adding that he will use the suspension as time off to get healthy.
While Ford managed to drop Shields just moments into the fight with a jab, he refused to follow the highly-touted Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt to the ground.
Shields eventually got to the fight to the ground with ease, and locked up a rear-naked choke before the end of the opening frame.
The loss snapped a six-fight win streak for Ford, who is now 1-1 under the WSOF banner.
Meanwhile, Shields was triumphant in his WSOF debut and has now won three of his past four matchups.
