WWE Star CM Punk Rips Nike and Jon Jones After Signing Endorsement Deal

Professional wrestler CM Punk is good friends with two-time UFC middleweight contender Chael Sonnen, so it’s no surprise that Punk (whose real name is Phillip Brooks) has no problem speaking his mind.

One day after UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones confirmed he had signed a global deal with Nike, Punk sent out a Tweet (http://twitter.com/CMPunk) taking a shot at both the international apparel company and Jones.

“Let's reward more drunk drivers with endorsement deals! #responsibility”

On May 19, Jones was charged with driving while intoxicated in Binghamton, New York after he crashed his Bentley Continental GT into a telephone pole around 5 a.m.

Jones pled guilty to the charges on June 9 and was sentenced on July 31. The 25-year-old has his driver’s license suspended for six month and had to pay a $1,000 fine, among other repercussions.

Punk lives a “straight edge” lifestyle, meaning that he doesn’t use drugs or drink alcohol.

Nike’s deal with Jones marks their first international deal with a UFC fighter. “Bones” will get his own line of shoes and other clothing items should follow suit.

On Wednesday, Jones tweeted (http://twitter.com/JonnyBones):

“Blessed to be signed by the biggest sports apparel company in the world #NIKE Dreams do come true”

As of Thursday evening, Jones did not respond to Punk’s comment.

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva has a Nike deal exclusive to Brazil, while UFC welterweight Yoshihiro Akiyama has a Nike deal in Japan.
