2014 NBA Draft Live Blog

As eDraft did with the NFL draft back in May, we will be providing you with live updates on the 2014 NBA Draft as the picks and trades happen. Writers Joey Levitt and Andrew Brand will lead you through the draft with analysis and opinions on everything that goes down tonight.

Before that, let's go ahead and give you a brief rundown of the trades that have already happened leading up to the draft itself.

New York Knicks trade Tyson Chandler and Raymond Felton to the Dallas Mavericks for Shane Larkin, Wayne Ellington, Jose Calderon, Samuel Dalembert and two second-round picks.

Houston Rockets trade Omer Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans for a first-round pick in the 2015 NBA draft.

And with the No. 60 and final pick of the 2014 NBA Draft, the San Antonio Spurs select PF Cory Jefferson, Baylor. Averaged 13.7 PTS, 8.2 REB and 1.3 BLK in 2013-2014. Fairly certain Coach Pop will extract maximum talent out of this young gentleman. Unfortunately for Jefferson, he's headed to the Nets. Goodnight, folks. Hope you enjoyed eDraft's coverage of this year's NBA draft!

The New York Knicks select SF Thanasis Antetokounmpo with the No. 51 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. His younger brother Giannis plays for the Bucks. Welcome, NBA, to the Era of Greek Freaks taking over the hardwood.

The Philadelphia 76ers select PG Russ Smith, Louisville, with the No. 47 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Sixers definitely get a steal in Round 2 with Mr. Russdiculous. Simply has winner mentality written all over him.

It was only a matter of time before Cleanthony Early went here in the second round an te New York Knicks must have been licking their chops at the possibility of getting him here at 34th overall. Early of course made a name for himself for Wichita State as they made a run in the NCAA tournament. Early was a power forward in college but he will be undersized as a four in the NBA. He is probably better served as a three albeit one that needs to work on his jumper for consistency.

Round one is done and despite the countless reports of trades in the making, it was relatively quiet on that front. With the start of the second round right around the corner here are a few guys who are still on the board despite projecteding as first rounders.  KJ McDaniels, Cleanthony Early, Jerami Grant, Glen Robinson III and Russ Smith; look for these guys to go early in the second round here.

The Phoenix Suns got themselves one heck of an international player with the 27th pick. Bogdan Bogdanovic might not be NBA ready for at least a couple years but as far as draft and stash picks go this one is a gem. Solid fit for Jeff Hornacek's system as he is a very versatile player who needs to mature and add some muscle to his frame.

The Miami Heat got their guy in Shabazz Napier. The Heat made this work by swapping picks with the Charlotte Hornets and in return the Hornets got PJ Hairston. I know this deal was done to appease Lebron James but wouldn't Hairston have been a better pick. The Heat could have used te versatile Hairston but instead they now have a rookie point guard who could be handed the reins to a perennial championship team.

Mitch McGary's draft stock didn't devalue as much as folks were suggesting. It was rumoured that the Oklahoma Thunder gave McGary a promise here and it turns out they might have done just that. He will need time to develop and get into decent playing shape but a stint in the D-League might just do him some good.

All I can say is that it is hard to be a Toronto Raptors fan on the best of days. We have struggled though some horrifically poor years and yet they continue to draft international prospects with the hopes of maturing them into NBA stars. This hasn't worked in the past and in a few years the few people that know Bruno Cabulco will have forgotten him. What a waste of a pick.

The Bulls second pick in the draft which was also a part of the McDermott deal was a nice one for the Denver Nuggets. They were able to grab Garry Harris here to address some backcourt needs. Harris will develop nicely behind the newly aquired Arron Afflalo.

The Phoenix Suns grab point guard Tyler Ennis from Syracuse with the 18th overall pick. Strange pick as the Suns are loaded in the backcourt already and here they grab yet another backcourt player here. Even if they are resolved to letting Eric Bledsoe go they still don't need another guard. Not a great pick here for the Suns, should have looked for front court help here.

Great pick here for the Celtics with the 17th pick. To grab James Young here so late in the draft is nothing short of a steal. Not only do the Celtics get a very athletic player but they also addressed their small forward void. This pick will be looked upon as a steal.

The Chicago Bulls are drafting here for Denver as a part of the Dougie McBuckets trade. Interesting to see that the Nuggets targeted the international center Jusuf Nurkic. Nurkic is a big bodied guy who can definitely play physically at this level but his offensive game is going to need a ton of work. Decent enough pick but he might not be quite ready for the level of play of the NBA.

The Atlanta Hawks select PF Adrian Payne, Michigan St, with the No. 15 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Prototypical stretch-four, will succeed at the NBA level. Undeniable toughness inside to complement his outside game. Continually improving shot. Grade A character.

The Phoenix Suns select SF T.J. Warren, NC State, with the No. 14 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Great scorer near the rim and in mid-range areas of the floor. Not a quality rebounder or defender at this point. But again, a big-time scorer. Should thrive in Phoenix.

The Minnesota Timberwolves select PG Zach Lavine, UCLA, with the No. 13 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Unreal athlete with Russell Westbrook-like explosion offensively. Still very raw and needs much overall development. Highlight reel waiting to happen.

The Orlando Magic select PF Dario Saric, Croatia, with the No. 12 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Outstanding passer, great rebounder. Quality scorer, but needs work on long-range shot if he wants to become a successful stretch-four. Signed on to stay in Europe for next two years. When will we see him on the NBA scene?

The Denver Nuggets have traded No. 11 pick Doug McDermott to the Chicago Bulls for the No. 16 and 19 picks, according to ESPN. Chicago needed—and still does—scoring in a huge way. Will he work in Tom Thibodeau's system?

The Denver Nuggets select SF Doug McDermott, Creighton, with the No. 11 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Led the nation in scoring, 5th all time in Div. 1 history. Versatile scorer from all areas of the floor. Will unload 3-pointer at high rate in the NBA. Underrated defensively and athletically. Can he succeed in Denver?

The Philadelphia 76ers select PG Elfrid Payton, UL Lafayette, with the No. 10 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Combo guard who can score, distribute and defend. Excellent in transition. No jump shot, led the NCAA in turnovers. Will form interesting dynamic with Michael Carter-Williams in Philly.

The Charlotte Hornets select PF Noah Vonleh, Indiana, with the No. 9 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Terrific rebounder, very productive overall offensively. Huge hands, wingspan. Could become stretch-four in Charlotte. Played just one year at NCAA level.

The Sacramento Kings select SG Nik Stauskas, Michigan, with the No. 8 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Complete offensive game. Will come in Day 1 and produce as a knock-down shooter. Big Ten Player of the Year. Great competitor. Project defensively.

The Los Angeles Lakers select PF Julius Randle, Kentucky, with the No. 7 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Traditional producer, rebounder in the low-block who reminds many analysts of Zach Randolph. Lefty double-double machine who led Kentucky to National Championship. No jump shot, but it may not even matter with his physical dominance inside.

The Boston Celtics select PG Marcus Smart, Oklahoma St., with the No. 6 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Awesome defender with fierce mentality. Toughest player in the draft. Still without a jump shot, but can get to the rim. Can work alongside Rajon Rondo if Boston so chooses.

The Utah Jazz select PG Donte Exum, Australia, with the No. 5 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Great length at 6’6’’, good passer. Can play both backcourt positions. Will form excellent pair with Trey Burke in Utah. Is an inconsistent shooter, but also is just 19 years old.

The Orlando Magic select PF Aaron Gordon, Arizona, with the No. 4 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Amazing transition athlete with fantastic defensive skill set. Still raw at this point and needs much development offensively, especially with his jump shot. Hard-working mentality deem this a great pick.

The Philadelphia 76ers select C Joel Embiid, Kansas, with the No. 3 pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Nimble 7-footer with the highest ceiling of any player in the draft. Elite defender and rebounder. Developing offensively. Has a multitude of injury concerns moving forward. Could turn into next Hakeem Olajuwon.

The Cleveland Cavaliers select SG Andrew Wiggins, Kansas, with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. Upper-echelon athlete with great defense and very high upside. Offensive game and “killer” mentality still need work.

With less than 30 minutes before the start of the 2014 NBA Draft, the Cleveland Cavaliers can go in any number of directions with the No. 1 overall pick. If they crave elite defense, incredible athleticism and an unlimited ceiling, Andrew Wiggins is their guy. For guaranteed offensive production and Day 1 NBA readiness, they'll go with Jabari Parker. And if they're in the business of gambling their future, they could trade down and hope Joel Embiid overcomes an endless series of injuries and becomes the next Hakeem Olajuwon—in 2020. We'll find out soon enough.

Let the madness begin, first trade of the day belongs to the Denver Nuggets and the Orlando Magic. Arron Afflalo had been rumoured to be on the move but most had him going to Cleveland along with some picks for Cleveland's top pick. Well all that conjecture is over as Afflalo was obtained by the Nuggets for Evan Fournier and the 56th overall pick. By my account Denver completely fleeced Orlando here as Afflalo is a budding star in the league. One has to figure that Afflalo's value in the Association was higher than this. Fournier is decent but no where near the talent of Afflalo. This deal really only makes sense if something else is brewing in Orlando, so let's wait and see what the day brings.

The Orlando Magic have traded Arron Afflalo to the Denver Nuggets for Evan Fournier and the 56th pick in the 2014 NBA draft tonight. Afflalo figures, who averaged nearly 19 points per game last season, figures to start for Denver in 2014-2015.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are less than 10 hours away from officially being on the clock with the first overall pick. Reports have the franchise still being undecided on what direction to go. If one believes all the hype, then media reports would have you believe that owner Dan Gilbert wants Andrew Wiggins while the front office braintrust prefers Jabari Parker here. At this point rumours persist that the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers and the Utah Jazz are in discussion with the Cavs to move into the top spot.
