Just when the defending Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers were ready to embark on a 2015-16 campaign injury-free after suffering so many serious injuries a season ago, comes some rather troubling news for the team.
Guard Iman Shumpert is expected to miss 12-14 weeks after suffering a ruptured extensor carpi ulnaris in his right wrist. This means that the starting guard will miss at least the first two months of the regular season. It also comes with fellow guard Kyrie Irving sidelined at least the first month with a knee injury.
Cleveland has some depth in the backcourt after it signed Mo Williams and brought back J.R. Smith, but seeing injuries pile up even before training camp starts has to be somewhat of a concern.
Shumpert averaged 7.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game after coming over from the New York Knicks in February. Not seen as a viable fantasy option in year-long leagues, this won't have much of an impact as it relates you your preseason drafts. Though, it could mean a larger scoring role for Smith out of the gate.
