Disappointing Fantasy Point Guards of the NBA's First Half

As the NBA winds down its unofficial first half with the All-Star break looming, we figured it made sense to check in on what's been happening around the fake basketball world. From here until the end of the week, eDraft will be looking at the most-surprising and most-disappointing fantasy performers at each position.

We take into account preseason expectations (ADP) and performance in listing the following as the most-disappointing fantasy point guards thus far on the 2016-17 NBA season.

1. Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers

PG Rank: 10th

Preseason ADP Positional Rank: 5th

Don't be fooled, Irving has had a pretty darn good season for the defending champion Cavaliers. He's simply not being tasked to do as much with Kevin Love putting up the best all-around performance of his career. Irving does rank in the top 10 among point guard in scoring average at 24.2 per game.

However, he's no better than 19th at his position in rebounds, assists and steals. That's been the biggest problem for Irving, who has performed from a fantasy perspective as a bottom end PG1 in 12-team leagues. It also doesn't help here that Irving ranks eighth in consistency. This means he's continually putting up below-standard fantasy performances, at least in comparison to where he was drafted heading into the season.

2. Damian Lillard, Portland Trail Blazers

PG Rank: 7th

Preseason ADP Positional Rank: 4th

When selected within the top-five picks at your position in terms of ADP, the expectation is that you will be a bottom-end option at that position in the fantasy basketball world. Through the first half-plus of the NBA season, Lillard simply hasn't been that.

Not only does he rank in the bottom half of starter-caliber point guards, he simply hasn't put up the awe-inspiring performances we saw a season ago. Remember, here's a dude that almost single handily won DFS contests for players. That hasn't been the case this season. How do we know? Well, he ranks seventh among point guards in fantasy points and is fourth at that position in consistency. Tremendous stuff, right? That's until we realize a lot of people were banking on his ceiling being much higher than it's been.

3. Stephen Curry, Golden State Warriors

PG Rank: 4th

Preseason ADP Positional Rank: 2nd

We knew there would be some sort of regression from Curry with Kevin Durant now in the mix in Golden State. And in reality, Curry has somewhat stemmed the tied here. He's fourth among point guards in fantasy points and ranks 11th among all players in this category.

Unfortunately, Curry's preseason ADP had him as the third overall player off the board (on average). Ranking 11th thus far this season, he certainly has not lived up to expectations. Though, there is definitely a positive to be had here. Curry does rank third among point guards in fantasy consistency, having put up 30-plus fantasy points in 92 percent of his games this season.
