The injury bug has bitten Western Conference contenders big time over the past couple days. Fresh off the Golden State Warriors announcing that Stephen Curry will miss the next couple weeks with a sprained MCL, comes this devastating information regarding Los Angeles Clippers guard Chris Paul.
Paul suffered a broken right hand in the team's Game 4 loss to the Portland Trail Blazers on Monday and will likely be out for the remainder of the playoffs.
Unlike the Curry injury, there doesn't seem to be much hope that Paul will be able to return any time soon, leaving Austin Rivers to fill in as the Clippers starter for the remainder of their playoffs series against Portland, and potentially longer should the team advance.
Rivers has struggled considerably through four games in this series. He's averaging just 7.0 points while shooting 41 percent from the field. With extended minutes, he's going to have to pick it up big time if the Clippers are going to advance. The series is currently tied up at two.
Nearly as troubling for the Clippers, Blake Griffin re-injured his quad in the game and is questionable to go for Game 5 in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Head coach Doc Rivers called him 50/50 to go for the game.
