The Miami Heat have re-signed veteran guard Dion Waiters to a four-year, $52 million contract. Despite receiving interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks, this was always the likeliest scenario for Waiters.
The 25-year-old guard is coming off a career-best performance in his first season down in South Beach. He averaged 15.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game. Waiters also shot at a tremendous 40 percent clip from the field.
It will be interesting to see who Miami surrounds him with in free agency from here on out. The team was in on Gordon Hayward before he signed with the Boston Celtics on Tuesday.
With that said, the free agent market is now watered down to a point where Miami might be relying on Waiters to be a big-time scorer this upcoming season. He ranked second behind Gorman Dragic in that category last season.
