The Los Angeles Clippers received some rather stunning news following their loss to the Washington Wizards on Sunday. According to multiple media reports, All-Star forward Blake Griffin will undergo knee surgery and won't be able to return until some point in January.
Griffin played without incident Sunday, putting up 26 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in 38 minutes of action. It's not yet known what exactly went wrong here, but surgery itself, no matter how minor, is never a good thing.
Griffin is averaging 21.0 points, 8.9 rebounds and 4.6 assists this season.
The power forward missed 47 games to injury a season ago, at which point fellow All-Star Chris Paul stpped up from a scoring standpoint. Paul averaging a six-year high 19.5 points while adding 10 assists per game. While his numbers are nearly identical this season, Paul is averaging 2.5 shots less per game. Look for him to take on a larger scoring role until Griffin returns.
We should also expect both Luc Mbah a Moute and Marreese Speights to play larger roles in Griffin's stead. Though, neither offers much from a fantasy or DFS standpoint here.
