The Milwaukee Bucks made a splash in the first day of free agency, as they agreed to a four-year, $39 million dollar deal with Matthew Dellavedova. Because Dellavedova is a restricted free agent, the Cleveland Cavaliers have the right to match Milwaukee's offer, though LeBron James tweet made it pretty clear that isn't going to happen.
Dellavedova was an NBA Finals icon in 2015 for some of his defensive performances against Stephen Curry, but his playing time was a result of multiple injuries. After he averaged 24.9 minutes per game last postseason, Delly saw just 12.2 minutes per game this postseason. He set a career-high in minutes per game (24.60, points per game (7.5) and assists per game (4.4), but would be stuck in a limited role in Cleveland.
Now he cashes in and will make nearly $10 million per year, in addition to increased minutes for a Bucks team that came into the offseason looking to add a point guard who could play major minutes and defend other point guards. Cleveland isn't going to match the contract, but it won't all be official until after July 7.
