Top 10 Fantasy Basketball Disappointments of the Season

This season brought us some amazing fantasy performers but unfortunately a ton of huge busts as well. These guys are the worst of the worst, the most dissapointing of the bunch. If you drafted anyone on this list I feel your pain, but cheer up, there's always next season.

Derrick Rose, Chicago Bulls

I usually don’t punish players for getting injured but Rose has to be recognized as one of the biggest fantasy disappointments of the season. Glowing pre-season reports led Rose to be drafted in the top-8 of most fantasy drafts, but he would barely appear in a month’s worth of action before he was lost for the season yet again. Rose burned a ton of fantasy owner’s and will likely slide in next year’s fantasy drafts.

Ersan Ilyasova, Milwaukee Bucks

Ilyasova has been a massive fantasy bust this season as he’s dealt with a ton of injuries and problems with his consistency. He’s already been shut down for the season with an ankle injury, and even when he did play this year he mostly stunk up the joint. Ilyasova’s 13.91 PER was the 2nd-lowest of his career and ranked 169th in the league, below guys like Zaza Pachulia, Elton Brand and Trevor Booker.

Deron Williams, Brooklyn Nets

Williams was a borderline first-round pick in most fantasy drafts but hasn’t even cracked top-70 value on the season. The 8th year veteran’s play is still solid all-around but he’s clearly lost a step or two along the way. Williams hasn’t even played like a top-20 fantasy point guard, and his 18.01 PER his the lowest since his 2nd season.

Tony Parker, San Antonio Spurs

Parker played at a near-MVP level last season but hasn’t been able to capture that same lightning in a bottle this year. His numbers are down across the board and to make matters worse he’s been rested throughout the year and random intervals. Parker’s ADP in ESPN standard leagues was 29th but he ranks as the 87th highest scoring fantasy player as of this posting.

O.J. Mayo, Milwaukee Bucks

Some fantasy owners thought Mayo was going to step up as the number one option on a bad Bucks’ team, but those who took a chance on him are likely kicking themselves right now. Mayo’s had a nightmare season that’s included plenty of DNP’s, injuries and uninspired play. Mayo has only appeared in 53 games this season as he’s put up near career-lows across the board.

Derrick Williams, Sacramento Kings

Williams was pegged as a late-round flier but never ended up providing solid fantasy value. His ADP of 120 isn’t too bad, but he hasn’t come close to matching that value this season. Williams had some breakout appeal in Minnesota but it became apparent he was just a bench piece when he was dealt to Sacramento mid-season.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Charlotte Bobcats

Kidd-Gilchrist had a solid rookie campaign last season but this year he’s been mired in an ugly sophomore slump. His averages of 7.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 0.7 steals are all down from last season and has even missed 20 games due to a variety of injuries. “MKG” really hasn’t shown any progression in his game, and his lack of an impact in the box score for a team weak on wing’s is big red flag.

Andrew Bynum, Indiana Pacers

Drafting Bynum was a decent risk for owners willing to roll the dice, but he never contributed in real life or in fantasy leagues. Bynum was a 9th rounder in most ESPN standard leagues this season, which ended up as a complete waste of a draft pick. Bynum’s managed to appear in just 26 games with averages of 8.7 points and 5.6 rebounds as he’s only played 20 minutes per game in stints with Indiana and Cleveland.

Larry Sanders, Milwaukee Bucks

Sanders had a break-out season in 2012-2013 as he averaged nearly a double-double with three blocks, but he’s been nowhere near that caliber of player this year. He’s played only 23 games this year due to thumb and eye injuries and even when he played he was far from impressive. Sanders’ numbers are way down in every category and he ranks just 49th among fantasy big men -- pretty awful for a guy drafted in the top 45 of most drafts this year.
