Top Chicago Cubs prospect Willson Contreras will be making his first Major League start behind home plate when they take on the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals on Monday evening.
Contreras, 24, hit a homer in his first at-bat in the Majors on Sunday. In fact, it came on the first pitch he saw against Pirates pitcher A.J. Schugel.
The young catcher was hitting .350 with a .439 on-base percentage and ridiculous 1.030 OPS for Triple-A Iowa at the time of the call-up, adding nine homers, 43 RBI and 28 extra-base hits in just 54 games.
It stands to reason that Contreras will be the Cubs' primary catcher moving forward. At the very least, he'll be splitting time with Miguel Montero.
From a fantasy perspective, this is definitely something to keep an eye on. Catchers in DFS play are what we'd call crap shoots, so if this youngster can prove he's worthy of a consistent start, it will shake up the entire landscape of the daily fantasy baseball world.
