Zach Mettenberger Gets Dinged
The Tennessee Titans got more than just a loss on Sunday against the Houston Texans. Titans quarterback Zach Mettenberger injured his shoulder when Texans star J.J. Watt drove Mettenberger into the ground in the third quarter. Titans head coach Ken Whisenhunt doesn’t believe the injury to be serious. The Titans are hoping to get their quarterback back onto the field as early as this Sunday against the New York Giants. With the end of the season quickly approaching, the Titans front office wants as many opportunities as they can get to evaluate their young quarterback and decide whether they’ll be drafting a new one or not this upcoming draft.
Jim Harbaugh Supports Offensive Coordinator Greg Roman
After yet another awful performance by the San Francisco 49ers’ offense, even more fans are calling for offensive coordinator Greg Roman’s job. In his press conference on Monday, head coach Jim Harbaugh was asked about his coordinator and responded, “I have unwavering support for all our coaches and players.” It’s worth noting that one specific fan was calling for Roman’s job after their loss, and that was General Manager Trent Baalke’s daughter, Cassie Baalkie. She took to Twitter to complain about the coordinator and has since deleted her Twitter account.
Johnny Manziel Scores First Touchdown of His Career
The Cleveland Browns’ starting quarterback Brian Hoyer has been in a bit of a slump lately and this Sunday it finally resulted in him being replaced on the field. Johnny Manziel came in for the Browns and led their offense on an 80-yard drive that ended with Manziel scoring on a 10-yard touchdown run. Head coach Mike Pettine is now faced with a major decision: should he start Hoyer or Manziel going forward? This decision could define his career in Cleveland.
Jaguars Complete Stunning Upset Over the Giants
The New York Giants have had a bit of a dumpster fire feel to them for the past few weeks. This past Sunday it reached a whole new level. They allowed the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars to beat them. But just beating them isn’t what made it so stunning. The Giants allowed the Jaguars to come back from being down 21-3 to win 25-24.
Carlos Rogers Gets Placed On IR
The Oakland Raiders went out this offseason and signed cornerback Carlos Rogers after he was cut by the San Francisco 49ers. He has been extremely unimpressive when he’s been on the field to say the least. The Raiders announced on Monday that Rogers has been placed on Injured Reserve, ending his season. Rogers is set to become a free agent after this season and I would be surprised if any other team takes a chance on him.
Chris Long is Activated From IR
The St. Louis Rams’ defensive line started the year extremely slow. Recently they have more than made up for it. This past Sunday they got arguably their best player back in Chris Long when he was activated from Injured Reserve. In his first game back Long recorded a sack. As he gets more and more healthy and in game shape, look for him to make an increasing impact on the field.
Could Lance Briggs’ Career with the Bears Be Over?
After the Chicago Bears’ loss on Thanksgiving to the Detroit Lions, it was announced that Bears linebacker Lance Briggs has been placed on Injured Reserve and will miss the rest of the season. Before this injury Briggs had acknowledged that this was most likely his last season in Chicago. Set to be a free agent after this season, the question is now whether another team will take a chance on Briggs.
Ray Rice Is Available For Teams to Sign
Former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice won his appeal to be immediately reinstated in the NFL. He is now able to sign with any team that is willing to sign him. Finding a team that is willing to sign him this season might be harder than actually winning his appeal. If any team went out on a limb and signed Rice they would almost certainly be committing PR suicide. However, don’t be surprised if Rice finds his way back onto the field next season as he has a lot to offer teams in need of a quality running back.
Tyrann Mathieu May Miss Up To Three Weeks
The Arizona Cardinals are forced to work through yet another key injury. This time it’s to safety Tyrann Mathieu. According to head coach Bruce Arians, the best case scenario would be for Mathieu to not need surgery on it and put it in a cast to be able to have it ready for next week’s game against Kansas City. The worst case scenario is him needing surgery to put a pin in the thumb where he would miss three weeks. The Cardinals have lost two games in a row and have Kansas City coming up. They need all the help they can get.
Sammy Watkins Suffers Hip Injury
Buffalo Bills rookie wide receiver Sammy Watkins suffered another ding this past Sunday in the team’s win over the Cleveland Browns. Watkins suffered a hip injury to go with his groin and rib injuries. While he’s suffered a few dings this season, none of them have caused him to miss any games. Head coach Doug Marrone said he’ll have a better gauge on this one by Wednesday. Until then it’ll just be a waiting game. If they Bills are going to make a push into the playoffs they will certainly need their standout wide receiver to be as healthy as possible.
