Three games were already played on Thursday, yet many of us have waited until the last possible second to set the remainder of our lineup. A lot of this has to do with second-guessing yourself as you make a final push for the fantasy playoffs or enter the first round in your league.
Through research, I am going to give you a few recommendations for today's slate of NFL action. They could give you the competitive advantage you need to take it to the next level and continue playing into Week 14.
Mike Glennon Will Not Help You Ride Out the Thanksgiving Hangover
Glennon will be lining up on the other end of the line vs the No. 1 fantasy defense against quarterbacks, and it will not bode well for the rookie today. While Glennon is the 10th-ranked fantasy quarterback over the past two weeks, it's important to note he was going up against the Atlanta Falcons (24th vs fantasy quarterbacks) and Detroit Lions (22nd). That's not exactly upper-echelon competition right there. If you have a Colin Kaepernick or Eli Manning as your original QB1, definitely ride them.
Let Colin Kaepernick Eat
Kaepernick has been a major fantasy dud this season. Many had him pegged with top-five upside at the quarterback position, but he's nothing more than a top-tier QB2 option through 12 weeks. Most of that had to do with a lack of playmakers in the passing game and his inability to progress as a quarterback on the field. We saw a different story last week against an atrocious Washington Redskins defense. Kaepernick threw three touchdown passes and finished as the fourth-ranked fantasy quarterback. The interesting dynamic there is that Mario Manningham played a huge role, catching five passes on seven targets. With Michael Crabtree set to return at 100 percent and Anquan Boldin likely to use Janoris Jenkins like a mop, this has the makings of a surprise top-five performance from Kaepernick.
Frank Gore Won't Eat
As the 10th-ranked fantasy running back thus far this season, Gore has been what you would call a ridiculously consistent fantasy performer. That said, he's averaging less than three yards per carry over the last two weeks, as the 49ers have gone to more of a max-protect theory due to teams stacking the box with nine or 10 defenders. As I mentioned above, the 49ers are finally getting their playmakers back in the passing game. This doesn't mean that St. Louis, 31st-ranked defense against fantasy running backs, will ignore Gore. Where Kaepernick will have a good game, his backfield running mae might just be shut down again.
Donald Brown Could Provide a Spark
Brown has been on-again, off-again over the past four weeks. He has put up 129 yards on 20 rushes in odd-numbered games during that span, compared to four rushes for zero yards in even-numbered games. It just so happens that this will be the fifth game in that stretch and Brown will be going up against a Tennessee Titans defense that ranks 29th in the NFL against fantasy running backs. Overall, the Titans have yielded 130-plus rushing yards in four of their last six games. As someone that most of us forget about in fantasy football, Brown is a decent FLEX option today.
Arizona Cardinals' Receivers Will Stuff Themselves Full of Eagle
The Philadelphia Eagles are dead last in the NFL against fantasy receivers. According to Pro Football Focus, Cary Williams grades out as the 103rd-worst cornerback in coverage out of 112 player at that position. He will be playing and going up against the likes of DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper, as Chip Kelly continues to move his receivers around. Think about that for a second. Outside of that, Eagles' safeties are atrocious, plain and simple. Not only do you ride Larry Fitzgerald because he is "Fitz," you think long and hard about Michael Floyd as a WR2 while loading up on running backs. Cardinals are going to eat today.
