Jarvis Landry and Odell Beckham Jr. combined to be one of the best wide receiver duos in all of college football next year. Landry was a productive pas catcher, but he has been seen as the less of the two between Landry and Beckham Jr. Landry also played in the SEC, which is the best conference in all of college football. Let's take a look at eDraft's official scouting report on the prospect.
Strengths
Route Running: At his size, Landry is a shifty player. He's a good route-runner, and he has shown the ability to make plays across the middle.
Finds soft spots: Landry finds sweet spots in the defense all across the field. This is something that Wes Welker excels at in the NFL. Landry is a smart player because he can make an impact in the passing game even if he is not getting the ball thrown to him.
Good run-blocker: Landry is a guy who makes plays on every down. Even if it is a running play, Landry still tries his hardest to make an impact in the running game.
Weaknesses
Speed: Landry ran the slowest 40-yard dash out of any receiver at the combine. Some teams don't care about combine results, but it is worth noting that Landry looked awful at the combine. Landry ran a slower 40-time than Terron Armstead in 2013.
Small frame: Landry isn't big, and he isn't strong either. There aren't many physical traits that stand out with Landry, but he is just a good player.
Bad against man coverage: Because of his small frame, Landry rarely beats defenders one-on-one. This is important because many NFL defenses use man defenses.
NFL Comparison: Eric Decker, New York Jets
Like Landry, Decker doesn't have an elite frame. He is also not that fast, but Decker is a good player because he makes plays when called upon. Landry and Decker aren't No. 1's, but they are good players nonetheless.
Draft Outlook
Landry is projected as of now to get chosen in the second or third round. He is a good receiver, but he is not Sammy Watkins or Mike Evans. He is also lost in a deep receiver class, which is another thing that is hurting his draft stock as a whole.
Best Fits
I look at a team like the Seattle Seahawks who could draft Landry at the end of the second round. Seattle needs to draft a receiver to complement Percy Harvin and Doug Baldwin. Seattle also lost Golden Tate in free agency, so drafting a receiver is a need.
Other possible fits include the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, and the New York Jets.
