My most disappointing team of the 2013 season were the New York Giants. After they started 0-6 for the first time since 1976, the Giants ultimately finished 7-9. The Giants struggled in all three phases, but their offense and carelessness with the ball, losing the turnover battle by -15, was clearly the achilles heel of a losing season.
An above-average defense, the Giants lost defensive tackle Linval Joseph to free agency, but received a huge boost by adding Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Walter Thurmond to the passing defense.
After last year's successful first-round pick, offensive tackle Justin Pugh, Eli Manning and Victor Cruz are ready for an outside presence that can put a breath of fresh air into the offense, as well as consistent running game.
Knowing their needs, here is a list of possible targets for the Giants.
5. Mike Evans, Wide Receiver, Texas A&M (First Round)
I have no doubt if Evans is still available here the Giants make this pick quickly. Evans is a monster target who can make sketchy passes look routine and an average quarterback look good. He will give Manning a reliable target and apply relief to Victor Cruz on the inside.
4. Greg Robinson, Offensive Tackle, Michigan (First Round)
The latest rumors have Michigan’s Taylor Lewan headed to the Raiders or Falcons, meaning Robinson could take a tumble on draft day. Robinson is a massive mauling blocker, improving any run game instantly. Matching him with Pugh would make a great fit, and improve every facet of the offense considerably.
3. Aaron Donald, Defensive Tackle, Pittsburgh (First Round
Interior pressure is quietly one of the most coveted facets of defense around, exactly why there's no coincidence Donald is the fastest riser in the draft, and the fastest defensive tackle in his class as well. Donald fits well as a three-technique in a 4-3, immediately improving the whole front seven.
2. Troy Niklas, Tight End, Notre Dame (Second Round
You could argue Eli has never had a legitimate weapon at the tight end position. While Jace Amaro would be the first option with the second pick, Niklas is a much more realistic option with the 43rd pick. Niklas, could be the best one of the group five years from now, because of his ability to block and catch.
1. Charles Sims, Running Back, West Virginia (Third Round)
In a deeper running back class than people think, Sims would be a valuable addition to the team, as a third-round pick. With David Wilson’s long-term status a huge question mark, Sims can split time with Peyton Hillis. A Tom Coughlin approved player that can do it all, Sims has shown the ability to block, catch, and play special teams, and a player that will take some much needed weight off of Manning’s shoulders.
