2014 NFL Mock Draft, Experts Edition

We were lucky enough to be joined by some great football minds on Thursday evening on "Draft Rap" with Luke Inman. Jayson Braddock, Derrik Klassen and Ethan Hammerman joined Luke and myself to conduct a two-hour live mock draft on the air.

There were some major surprises and a couple of us hit the panic button at times. In any event, this might be the closest we get to understanding what might happen when the draft rolls around later this week. Here are the guys' credentials.

Jayson Braddock: Co-host on The Deep Post on 790 AM in Houston, Texas. NFL media scout and writer for Roto Experts.

Derrik Klassen: Writer for eDraft and NFL media scout.

Ethan Hammeman: Writer for Draft Mecca and NFL media scout.

Luke Inman: Writer for eDraft, NFL media scout and Senior Bowl attendee.

Vincent Frank: Head editor eDraft, editor-in-chief Sportsnaut and former NFL featured columnist/NFL draft expert at Bleacher Report.

Here are the picks. I will provide some thoughts below.

Trades

- Giants trade first-round pick (12th overall) and second-round pick (43rd overall) to the Vikings for eighth pick.

- Vikings trade second-round pick (40th overall) and third-round pick (72nd overall) to the Browns for 26th pick.

- 49ers trade second-round pick (56th overall) and third-round pick (77th overall) to the Panthers for 28th pick.

Best Picks(s)

5. Oakland Raiders, Khalil Mack: This couldn't have worked out any better for the Raiders, who saw one of the top players in the draft, at a position of need, fall on to their laps with the fifth overall pick. There has even been some rumors out there that the Raiders might be looking to move up for Mack, who is a better fit for the team than Jadeveon Clowney.

18. New York Jets, Odell Beckham: If Beckham were to fall to the Jets first-round selection, there is no way that John Idzik and company would pass up on him. There have been reports out there that he might go in the top 10. In any event, acquiring him without having to trade up would be a steal for the Jets.

26. Minnesota Vikings, Teddy Bridgewater: Look for a team like the Vikings to make the move up towards the back end of the first round should a quarterback still be available. In this scenario, Minnesota nabbed a starter-caliber cornerback in a trade down earlier in the first round, only to trade up for our No. 2 overall player in the draft.

32. Seattle Seahawks, Re'Shade Hageman: Based on our big board, the defending Super Bowl champions acquired a top-10 player with the final pick in the first round. Hageman might need to be coached up early in his career, but he's an absolute beast.

Worst Pick(s)

10. Detroit Lions, Ha'Sean Clinton-Dix: I understand full well the need for secondary help in Detroit, but Clinton-Dix was a tremendous reach in the top 10. In my opinion, you don't exhaust a pick that high on a safety unless he's the caliber of an Earl Thomas or Eric Berry when they came out. While a need was certainly filled here, it's too high of a pick for Clinton-Dix.

13. St. Louis Rams, Kyle Fuller: It's possible that the string of three consecutive cornerbacks could have thrown the Rams off here, especially with Dennard being the first off the board. The need really isn't there to spend a first-round pick on this position and 13 is too high for Fuller.

19. Miami Dolphins, Ryan Shazier: Not much of a need here for the Dolphins, who would have been much better off going with a Zack Martin or Taylor Lewan at 19. Didn't see this one coming at all.

28. San Francisco 49ers, Pierre Desir: I am going to call myself out here. San Francisco is going to target Desir, who I absolutely love as a prospect, at some point in the draft. Though, yielding a second and third to do so makes little sense. This was a knee-jerk reaction to all the other cornerbacks that went higher in the first round.
