2016 NFL Draft: Denver Broncos Team Needs

In continuing with this 32 article series, here's a look at the top needs for the Denver Broncos as well as a seven-round mock draft we ran through the FanSpeak mock draft simulator. We manually picked for Denver while the picks for all other 31 teams were selected by the simulator.

1. Quarterback

We know what's happening with the quarterback situation in Denver. It's now all about how John Elway and Co. are going to address it. Mark Sanchez would be the presumptive starter if the season started today. That's not good for anyone involved. Simply put, the Broncos need to find a quarterback during the three-day draft. Whether that's a trade up for Paxton Lynch, selecting a quarterback at 31 or trading for a veteran, this is most definitely going to happen.

2. Inside Linebacker

Losing Danny Trevathan to the Chicago Bears in free agency hurts big time here. That leaves Brandon Marshall and a whole heck of a lot of nothing else at middle linebacker for the Broncos. Considering this was a major strength for the defending champs, something needs to change here.

3. Guard

Max Garcia and Robert Myers are slated to start at guard with Evan Mathis now in the desert. That's going to be an issue, especially when it comes to pressure from the inside. No matter who is under center, that quarterback will need better protection up the middle in order to have success.

4. Defensive End

With Malik Jackson now in Jacksonville, defensive end definitely becomes a need. Jared Crick was brought on to replace him, but he's never put up more than 3.5 sacks in a season in four years in the NFL. Denver's defense is predicated on pressure from linebackers Von Miller and Demarcus Ware, but it needs someone capable of putting up decent numbers opposite Derek Wolfe at defensive end.

5. Offensive Tackle

Despite being under the eight ball with the cap, Denver did add two starter-caliber tackles in free agency in the form of Russell Okung and Donald Stephenson. There is, however, a concern over Okung's injury history. Should he fall to yet another injury, that would place Stephenson or Ty Sambrailo at left tackle, a less-than-ideal scenario. Though, a project mid-round pick could work best here.
