Continuing in this series of articles, today I focus on wide receivers and how they have done as it relates to fantasy points per target. I am pretty sure most of you will be surprised to see who sits atop this list.
Remember, these advanced statistics only prove that a certain player is extremely productive when given an opportunity to touch the ball. It is now up to the quarterback and coaching staff to actually find a way to get him said ball.
It shouldn't come as much of a surprise that Randall Cobb is among the leaders in this category. The second-year receiver from Kentucky is catching nearly 80 percent of the passes thrown in his direction. As Aaron Rodgers starts to make Cobb more if an integral part of the passing game, you will see his fantasy numbers increase a great deal. At the very least, Cobb is a solid dynasty pick once the season comes to a conclusion.
Michael Crabtree is yet another intriguing fantasy options. He seems to have picked up his game a great deal in 2012, especially since Colin Kaepernick took over as the 49ers' starting quarterback just a little over a month ago. Crabtree has now recorded consecutive 100-yard games and is among the most productive point per target receivers in the entire NFL. Needless to say, Crabtree's numbers will increase in the final two games of the 2012 season and entering 2013.
On the other end of the spectrum Larry Fitzgerald, at 0.67 is the worst starting receiver in this category. Of course a majority of his lack of fantasy production has to do with disastrous quarterback play in Arizona with the Cardinals. I put the blame mostly on the shoulder's of Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and ##Ryan Lindley.
