With the official start of the Preseason this week, it’s important to note injuries and how they affect your team or your team’s rivals. Plenty of players have gone down for the season at this point, including Jared Abbrederis, Kiko Alonso, and Sean Lee to name a few, and these injuries take their toll on the players, and the teams.
The latest big injury is to Green Bay Packers starter Don Barclay, who tore is ACL and will now miss the remainder of the season. Losing a starter on any offensive line hurts, but when he’s needed to help protect Aaron Rodgers it’s an even bigger loss.
The New York Jets lost Shaq Evans for what will likely be the entire season to a shoulder injury. That offense isn’t loaded with talent and he would have been competing for the second or third receiver spots on the depth chart.
Daniel Thomas of the Miami Dolphins is day to day with an injured hamstring, hurting his practice time, and maybe his roster spot chances. He’s losing valuable touches in a backfield that is likely to see some trimming.
The New York Giants are without Odell Beckham for the time being as he’s out with an injured hamstring. He’s losing valuable practice time and reps to create chemistry with Eli Manning.
The San Francisco 49ers lost two strong role players in a matter of days in Glenn Dorsey and Kendall Hunter to a bicep injury and knee surgery, respectively. Hunter would have seen limited carries in the backfield but Dorsey would have had extended time playing for the defense.
Dallas Cowboys lost an important rookie in Demarcus Lawrence for at least the first few weeks of the season with foot injury. This could be big for an already bad defense, as Lawrence possibly would have seen extended time and would have upgraded, not just the defensive line, but the defense as a whole.
The biggest injury of them all comes down on David Wilson who re-injured his neck recently, and will likely never play football in the NFL again. Wilson had tons of talent, but will sadly not be able to put those specific talents to good use.
The NFL has been filled with a lot of minor injuries already this summer, leaving many with “day to day” and “week to week” labels. We’ve got a long season ahead of us and hopefully a healthy season at that.
