It looks like the Jacksonville Jaguars are ready to move on at the quarterback position, as they traded away Blaine Gabbert to the San Francisco 49ers for a sixth-round draft pick.
Gabbert was the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NFL draft, and will now back-up Colin Kaepernick next to Colt McCoy.
It’s pretty safe to call the Missouri product a bust. After being drafted in 2011, he went 4-10 in his rookie season, and was benched this season for Chad Henne.
Gabbert only threw one touchdown, yet had seven interceptions in only three games. For his career, Gabbert has a .92 touchdown-to-interception ratio.
The Jaguars did re-sign Henne, and head coach Gus Bradley said he would be the starting quarterback for the first game in 2014.
But, they could still turn to the draft to find their quarterback of the future.
With the No. 3 overall pick in this year’s draft, they’ll have plenty of opportunity to take one of the big three quarterbacks (Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater).
Given his performance with Jacksonville, Gabbert is probably done as a starting quarterback in the NFL, barring some injuries in San Francisco.
