Yesterday on eDraft we posted an article that looked at Russell Wilson and Colin Kaepernick as solid replacement options for the injured Robert Griffin III during the fantasy football playoffs this week.
None of us could have even imagined what those two youngsters did on the road against AFC East opponents. Wilson and Kaepernick combined for nearly 550 yards of total offense and eight touchdowns in leading the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers to 91 total points. Overall, Wilson finished Week 15 as the No. 1 overall fantasy player with Kaepernick finishing fifth.
Outside of the ramifications that their performances had on the NFL playoff picture, these two youngsters showed the entire league that a new breed of quarterback has joined the party. While the likes of Cam Newton, Robert Griffin III and Andrew Luck have gotten most of the play this season, it is Wilson and Kaepernick that are stealing the show as of late.
Kaepernick threw a career-high four touchdown passes in leading San Francisco to a 41-34 victory in a dazzling performance last night against the New England Patriots. Despite blowing a four touchdown lead, the 49ers relied on Kaepernick to break the tie in the fourth quarter. He hit Michael Crabtree on a 38-yard touchdown with less than seven minutes remaining in the game. Overall, Kaepernick outplayed future Hall of Fame quarterback Tom Brady to the tune of a 107.7 rating compared to 68.9 for the latter.
Meanwhile, Wilson just tore into a bad Buffalo Bills defense. he gained nearly 250 yards of total offense and four scores (three on the ground) in the first half alone before Seattle took to the ground with a hefty lead in the second half. Wilson has now turned the ball over just two times in the last six games.
They have combined for 18 touchdowns compared to just two interceptions over the course of the last four weeks and have their teams playing the best football of any team in the NFC at this late point in the season. Equally as interesting for the common NFL fan, Seattle and San Francisco take on one another on Sunday Night Football in the Pacific Northwest next week.
We will have more on that all-important matchup as the week progresses.
