Browns Name Josh McCown Starter for Week 3

After attempting just eight passes in the Cleveland Browns Week 1 loss, veteran free-agent signing Josh McCown suffered a concussion against the New York Jets.

Missing last week's outing while still not cleared from the concussion, McCown sat on the sideline and watched Johnny Manziel lead the Browns to an impressive 28-14 victory over the Tennessee Titans.

Now cleared to play, it's being reported that McCown, not Manziel, will start against the Oakland Raiders this upcoming Sunday.

On the surface, this seems like a surprising move. Manziel led Cleveland to its first win of the season last week, throwing two long touchdown passes to Travis Benjamin in the process. However, Browns head coach Mike Pettine made the decision to start McCown during the summer months. In this, he's likely working under the guise that the veteran shouldn't lose his job to injury.

Though, we can pretty much guarantee that McCown will be given a short leash. At 1-1 on the season, Cleveland has a real opportunity to surpass the .500 mark heading into Week 4. A slow start by McCown could see Manziel taking snaps from under center sooner rather than later.

From a fantasy perspective, this isn't really a big deal. Neither Manziel nor McCown are viable fantasy options, though the former added more value in DFS contests. McCown himself is a fantasy non-factor.
