Almost eight months ago, David Amerson was a free agent just cut by Washington after the second-round pick in 2013 struggled to start his NFL career. Then the Oakland Raiders picked him up and the change of scenery revitalized his career and he established himself as a top, young cornerback. Now the Raiders have rewarded him as the two sides have agreed to a four-year, $38 million extension.
Amerson will receive $18 million guaranteed, a remarkable jump from the rookie contract that was paying him roughly $800,000 per season. He's well worth it though after a 2015 season where he picked off four passes and deflected 25 passes across 14 games, the tape on film helped him finish as Pro Football Focus' ninth-rated cornerback across the NFL. The 24-year-old offers all the tools to remain a consistent, high-end corner and with the Raiders addition of Sean Smith, the Raiders have an excellent cornerback duo.
