Veteran running back Chris Johnson may find himself as a member of the Arizona Cardinals in the not-so-distant future. Still without a team after struggling with the New York Jets a season ago, Johnson is reportedly headed to Arizona for a workout and physical with the Cardinals.
This shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Johnson has been linked to the Cardinals over the past couple days. Head coach Bruce Arians seems a bit concerned over the team's running back situation, especially after he indicated this week that there was no way the team was going to throw rookie third-round pick David Johnson out there following the running back missing substantial action during training camp.
Third-year running back Andre Ellington has also seen the injury bug bite him this summer. The smallish former Clemson standout has been dealing with a hamstring issue.
Johnson, 29, has seen his producton drop off each of the past two seasons after putting up 4.5 yards a rush and nearly 1,500 total yards for the Tennessee Titans in 2012. Any deal here would likely see him battling for a roster spot for the remainder of the preseason. Though, it must be noted that Johnson offers much more upside than any other veteran running back currently on the free-agent market.
