Cincinnati Bengals at Philadelphia Eagles: Fantasy Outlook

The Cincinnati Bengals are in a must win situation tonight against a lowly Philadelphia Eagles team that is playing out the string having won just one game since September. By no means does this indicate we are going to witness a boring Thursday Night Football game. Philadelphia boasts an interesting backfield duo in rookies Nick Foles and Bryce Brown. Meanwhile, the Andy Dalton-to-A.J. Green fantasy connection is dynamic each and every week Cincinnati is on the field.

Let's take a gander at what tonight's game has to offer.

Andy Dalton and Nick Foles, Quarterbacks

Dalton is the No. 10 overall fantasy quarterback this season and represents great value in terms of where he went, on average, in drafts. He has, however, struggled to an extent over the last two games. The second-year quarterback averaged just 12.5 points against the Oakland Raiders and San Diego Chargers. He is going up against a Philadelphia Eagles' secondary that has struggled since defensive coordinator Juan Castillo was let go in mid-October. Despite playing decently against Josh Freeman and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last week, there are just too many holes in the backend of Philadelphia's defense to expect it to stand up strong against Dalton here. I am expecting 260-plus yards and two scores from the Pro Bowl quarterback.

Meanwhile, Nick Foles was the second-best fantasy quarterback of Week 14. He put up over 400 total yards and three touchdowns against a 32nd ranked Tampa pass defense. I don't see the rookie from Arizona duplicating this effort against Cincinnati. While Nate Clements will be out with an injury, the Bengals have too much firepower in the front seven for Foles have time to pick apart what has to be considered a weak secondary. That said, Foles should still have another decent performance in terms of actual play on the field. He is, however, a fantasy non-factor.

BenJarvus Green-Ellis and Bryce Brown, Running Backs

Both of these running backs will make an impact in fantasy playoffs this week. Green-Ellis is the No. 4 overall fantasy running back over the last four weeks, behind the likes of Adrian Peterson, Doug Martin and Trent Richardson. He will be able to put up some solid numbers tonight against an Eagles' front that has yielded over 100 rushing yards in each of their last 10 games. The "Law Firm" has also been targeted nine times over the last two games, which makes him a decent threat in PPR leagues. I am looking at 100 rushing yards, four receptions and at least one score from the surprising running back.

Speaking of surprising running backs, Brown has lit the fantasy football world on fire recently. While the rookie did only tally six yards against the No. 1 overall rush defense in the NFL last week (Tampa Bay), he still ranks fifth among running backs in fantasy points over the last four weeks after putting up dynamic performances against both the Carolina Panthers and Dallas Cowboys. I expect Andy Reid and Co. to give Brown more of a look with LeSean McCoy still out with a concussion. Expect a minimum of 20 touches, 100 total yards and a score from the dynamic rookie.

A.J. Green and Jeremy Maclin, Wide Receivers

I am one of the lucky ones that was able to steal Green in the mid rounds prior to the season. Despite a poor, by his standards, performance against the Dallas Cowboys last week (three receptions, 44 yards), Green is going to be a top tier WR1 option this week against the Eagles. Neither Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie nor Nnamdi Asomugha are going to be able to stick with the No. 3 overall fantasy wide receivers. With Mohamed Sanu out for the season with an injury, Green's targets are only going to go up from here on out. Expect 15 targets, 10 receptions and 150 yards tonight.

Maclin is in somewhat the same situation as Green. DeSean Jackson is out for the season, which is going to give Maclin more targets moving forward. Maclin had his best performance last week in two months when he went for nine receptions, 104 yards and a score against Tampa Bay. There is no reason to believe that Foles is going to stray away from his No. 1 receiver and someone he has targeted 40 times in five appearances. Expect Maclin to accumulate double-digit targets and another 100-yard performance here.

Jermaine Gresham and Clay Harbor, Tight Ends

With Brent Celek out, Harbor has made the most of his opportunity. He was No. 3 among tight ends in fantasy points last week and should see a solid amount of targets going up against a weak Bengals' starting safety tandem. As we already know, the tight end position hasn't been anything to write home about this season. Why not give Harbor a start if you don't have one of the few reliable fantasy tight end's?

On the other end of the spectrum, Gresham is a must start here. Despite struggling with consistency, he has put up TE1 numbers this season. The primary reason that I have the Oklahoma product as a top five option at this position this week is because he is going up against a really bad Eagles secondary that tends to struggle covering between the hashes. Gresham will accumulate a nice amount of targets and make a couple big plays tonight.

Wildcard

Marvin Jones is my wildcard for tonight's game. He has replaced the injured Mohamed Sanu as Cincinnati's No. 2 receiver opposite Green and should see a tremendous amount of single coverage on the outside. Whether it is Asomugha or Rodgers-Cromartie going up against the rookie from CAL, he should be able to surprise a few people. I would expect a solid FLEX performance from him. Maybe something to the tune of five receptions for 70 yards and a possible score.
