Any hope of getting Zach Ertz first-team reps with new starting quarterback Sam Bradford during the preseason has been thrown out the window.
Expected to be ready for the regular season, Philadelphia Eagles head coach Chip Kelly indicated that Ertz is dealing with a "core muscle" injury and will not play during the exhibition slate.
It appears that the Eagles are being cautious more than anything else here. If it were the regular season, the tight end might be able to suit up. Concerns about Ertz connecting with Bradford is probably the only thing to take out of this.
Ertz, a second-round pick in the 2013 draft, saw his numbers increase dramatically last season. He put up 58 receptions for 702 yards after tallying a 36/469 split as a rookie. Ertz's current ADP has him as the eighth tight end off the board and a ninth-round pick.
