eDraft will be live blogging the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Here's what we are looking for today.
Players show up to the combine in waves and once there they get measured and weighed. Today tight ends have been benching, running the 40, and going through position drills. Offensive lineman have run the 40 and going through position drills. Quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers will be competing in the bench press, finally defensive lineman and linebackers will be getting measured today.
4:15 ET: Tight End Top Performers
Top bench press performers: Joe Don Duncan (Dixie State) with 35, Jace Amaro (Texas Tech) and Arthur Lynch (Georgia) tied with 28, Troy Niklas (Notre Dame) with 27, and C.J. Fiedorowicz (Iowa) with 25.
Top 40 yard dash performers: A.C. Leonard (Tennessee State) with 4.5 seconds, Eric Ebron (North Carolina) 4.6, Colt Lyerla (Formerly of Oregon) 4.61, Trey Burton (Florida) 4.62, and Jace Amaro (Texas Tech) with 4.74 seconds.
Top Broad Jump performers: Colt Lyerla (Formerly of Oregon) and A.C. Leonard (Tennessee State) tied with 128 inches, Eric Ebron (North Carolina) and Crockett Gilmore (Colorado State) tied with 120 inches, Jace Amaro (Texas Tech) rounds out the top five with 118 inches.
3:45 ET: Offensive Line Top Performers
The offensive lineman have mostly gone through their drills, and statistically the most impressive has been Taylor Lewan. Lewan is the top performer in the 40 yard dash, broad jump, and finished fourth in the three cone drill.
Top bench press performers: Russel Bodine (North Carolina) with 42. Matt Feiler (Bloomsburg), Corey Linsley (Ohio State), Tyler Larsen (Utah), and Antonio Richardson (Tennessee) all tied with 36.
Top 40 yard dash performers: Taylor Lewan (Michigan) with 4.87, Greg Robinson (Auburn) with 4.92, Trai Turner (LSU) with 4.93, Joel Bitonio (Nevada) and Matt Patchan (Boston College) tied with 4.97.
Top Broad Jump performers: Taylor Lewan (Michigan) with 117 inches, Joel Bitonio (Nevada) with 114 inches, Jonotthan Harrison (Florida) and Greg Robinson (Auburn) tied with 113 inches, Wesley Johnson (Vanderbilt) rounds out the top five with 111 inches.
Top Three Cone performers: Gabe Ikard (Oklahoma) with 7.3 seconds, Jake Mathews (Texas A&M) 7.34, Joel Bitonio (Nevada) 7.37, Taylor Lewan (Michigan) 7.39, and Wesley Johnson (Vanderbilt) with 7.4 seconds.
2:45 ET: Tight Ends Struggling
The tight ends have been out running routes, and as a whole are not looking very impressive. Eric Ebron is down icing his leg, others are dropping passes (Jame Amaro dropped a couple). Several of the tight ends didn't run through their routes, or ran through the drills incorrectly.
2:15 ET: Michael Sam Interview
Sam nailed his interview and answered his questions like a pro. Michael Sam the football player is a pass rusher, and that's what he'll do in the NFL. Sam made it clear that he wants to rush the passer in the NFL and he'll do it from either an outside linebacker spot, or from the defensive end position.
