2016 Review
With A.J. Green out six games to injury and following the departure of two key veteran receivers, the Bengals relied on LaFell to produce in 2016. And in reality, he put up the second-best season of his career.
The former Carolina Panther and New England Patriot tallied nearly 900 receiving yards while catching 61 percent of the passes thrown in his direction this past season. He also put up a decent 10 percent touchdown rate. This was good enough for LaFell to finish as a bottom-end FLEX option in 12-team leagues.
But as with most players of his caliber, LaFell failed to really show he was a reliable fantasy option throughout the season. A total of 41 percent of his fantasy points came in just three games. After that, he really wasn't a relevant option.
Dynasty Outlook
LaFell's stock is capped out. He's 30 years old and has yet to put up a 1,000-yard season. In a good offense, he's nothing more than a No. 3 receiver. This makes LaFell irrelevant in 12-team leagues, both of the redraft and dynasty variety. In reality, he's a waiver-wire claim at best.
That's obviously dependent on where LaFell ends up in free agency. If he goes to a team that lacks wide receiver talent, there will surely be an uptick in fantasy production. After all, he was FLEX guy this past season and actually came in as the 21st-best fantasy receiver when he was a member of the New England Patriots back in 2014.
Free Agency Outlook
LaFell's first order of business will be to look for a team that will feature him as a starter. That crop of teams is probably limited to less than two handfuls. Should this not come to fruition, there are plenty of squads out there that would value him as a solid No. 3 option.
