Fantasy Football Rookie Profile: Terrance Williams

Terrance Williams took a big gamble by deciding not to leave Baylor after his junior year along with Robert Griffin III, but ended up having a better season his senior year and actually boosted his draft stock in the process.  The Dallas Cowboys got good value when they selected Williams with the 12th pick of the third round, given that I had a high second-round grade on Williams headed into April’s draft.  Is Williams worth a look on your fantasy roster for 2013? Let’s take a look.

College Stats
Year Rec Yds Avg TD's
2009 2 21 10.5 0
2010 43 484 11.3 4
2011 59 957 16.2 11
2012 97 1,832 18.9 12
Totals: 201 3,294 16.4 27

Williams is an accomplished and skilled receiver, but he still has his limitations.  He’s great at run blocking and going up for jump balls, but he has consistency issues with catching and has never really lined up anywhere but the outside.  With Dez Bryant and Miles Austin already on the roster, it will be hard for Williams to see a lot of playing time, because Dallas is unlikely to line him up in the slot.

Besides Bryant and Austin, Jason Witten is obviously going to get the bulk of Tony Romo’s targets, which leaves very little for Williams to fight the likes of Gavin Escobar and Dwayne Harris for.

Williams isn’t even worth a look in redraft leagues in 2013, no matter what the scoring format.  In dynasty startup or rookie drafts, Williams has value in the latter rounds, as he will likely elevate himself to the No. 2 wide receiver in a year or two.

2013 Stat Projections: 25 receptions, 380 yards and two touchdowns.
