It’s only Week 2, but it feels like we’re deep into the fantasy season already. Last week’s “Sit ‘Em” article was absolute money, I hope everyone read it and adjusted their lineups accordingly. We don’t fail here at eDraft, we’re here to help you win. Simple. Here’s the top candidates to be sat for Week 2.
Quarterbacks
Phillip Rivers, San Diego Chargers
This is the most obvious sit of the week. Rivers faces the Seattle Seahawks, and even at home, this is an awful matchup. Against a great Arizona secondary, he fizzled out. Throwing for less than 240 yards, while also tossing an interception to the opposing team. No flashy stats here, just avoid this matchup at all costs.
Ryan Tannehill, Miami Dolphins
Another awful matchup play. I personally do not have Tannehill on any of my teams, but if I did, he’d have a nice warm spot on my bench this week. Simple fact here: He sucks against Buffalo. A lot. Especially at Buffalo, where this Week 2 game takes place. In four career games against the Bills, he is a combined 56 for 117, tossing for a measly 547 yards, paired with 6 touchdowns and 4 interceptions. That’s an average of 14 completions and 136 yards per game.
His numbers are even worse when he travels to Western New York, with his stat line sitting at 24 for 55 with 223 yards, one touchdown and 2 interceptions. That’s a total combining two games. Stay away. Stay far away.
Eli Manning, New York Giants
You know this. I know this. If he’s not on your bench already, you either lost internet access in the process of doing so, or you want to lose your league. Eli had an awful first game, and he’s all set and ready for an ever worse(that possible?) second week. The Cardinals secondary is light years better than the Lions.
With the game at home, maybe Eli can muster something up. My prediction is that by the end of this second game, Eli will have a new favorite pass-catcher. That guy will be Patrick Peterson. Can you say pick six?
Running Backs
Anyone running the ball for the Oakland Raiders
I told you this last week, and I’ll tell you again. Sit Maurice Jones-Drew and Darren McFadden. What these two did last week was pitiful. Peyton Manning could have gotten more than 26 yards on 14 carries. This week they go against the Texans. Not a great matchup for a team that doesn’t know how to run the ball. You can surely get a better matchup in your lineup than these two.
Zac Stacy, St Louis Rams
Stacy had a very uninspiring game against the Vikings last week. Expect the same to happen once again. Who knows who will be starting for the Rams at quarterback at this point, but one thing is forsure. The Buccaneers are going to put eight in the box and force them to throw the ball.
Considering they can’t pass the ball, the Buccs are just going to keep the run blitzes coming, and Stacy is sure to be stuffed every carry. Stacy for his career has been pretty mediocre. His career yards per carry average is 3.9, expect that to go down after this game.
Joique Bell, Detroit Lions
Fantasy football is all about matchups, and this is another bad one. The Panthers were great against Doug Martin and company last week, holding him to just 75 yards rushing. Luke Keuchly and the rest of the Carolina team strives on getting in the backfield, considering they have a bunch of nobodies in the secondary. This is not a great matchup, especially since Reggie Bush will get a lot of looks catching the ball.
Wide Receivers
Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers
Scroll up and read the paragraph on Rivers, and it’s pretty similar. Allen will be lucky to nab a single ball against Richard Sherman to be totally honest. Against Pat Peterson, he had only five catches for 37 yards. If he can duplicate even that performance, it’d be a miracle. Allen is warming his spot on the bench this week.
Terrance Williams, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys are awful. Players like Dez Bryant and DeMarco Murray are worthy of starts weekly because of their talent, but Williams lacks said talent. This is another bad matchup, against a Titans defense who is pretty underrated. In Week 1, they gave up the third fewest yards to wide receivers. When the Cowboys get behind(and they will, look at their defense), Tony Romo will look to his veteran pass-catchers like Dez and Jason Witten. But, chances are he’ll throw it to Jason McCourty.
Victor Cruz, New York Giants
I know, you drafted him hoping to get what he used to produce. Simply put, you’re not going to get that. Certainly not this week. Eli can’t throw the ball, and Pat Peterson is going to put Cruz in handcuffs. Nothing needs to be said other than this: Avoid the Chargers offense against the Seahawks, and avoid the Giants offense against the Cardinals.
Tight End
Antonio Gates/Ladarius Green, San Diego Chargers
I’m not going to bore you with this again. I love Green’s upside for the rest of the season, but not this week. Bench these guys this week and thank me later.
Coby Fleener/Dwayne Allen, Indianapolis Colts
I love putting guys in my lineup that play on Monday night. It adds a certain enjoyment factor to the game knowing you need X amount of points to win or lose your game. I’m not touching these two, however. They are probably not starting on you ESPN leagues, but you may be thinking about them on Fanduel and punting on tight end. Philly has been great covering tight ends dating back to last year, and Week 1 was a prime example of that. The Jaguars tight ends last week totaled six catches for only 31 yards.
