Fantasy Football: Top Waiver Wire Adds for Week 1

If you made the mistake of drafting prior to the end of the preseason, there's a whole heck of a lot that's changed. Tony Romo is lost for at least the next two months after breaking a bone in his back. Teddy Bridgewater went down for the season with a serious injury. Meanwhile, the Minnesota Vikings acquired Sam Bradford as his replacement over the weekend.

That's just the quarterback position. Things have obviously changed all throughout the fake football world.

On that note, here's our look at the top waiver-wire adds for Week 1 of the 2016 NFL season.

Dak Prescott, Quarterback, Dallas Cowboys

Why not? Prescott finds himself in a position to succeed while Romo recovers from the injury he suffered during the preseason. Boasting the league's best offensive line with a running back group that includes Ezekiel Elliott as well as two former 1,000-yard rushers, Prescott should be in a solid position to make an impact out of the gate. Add in Dez Bryant at wide receiver, and that's magnified even further.

Prescott, a fourth-round pick from Mississippi State, completed nearly 80 percent of his passes while tallying seven total scores and zero interceptions in the preseason. He's also opening up the season against a New York Giants team that ranked 31st in the NFL against fantasy quarterbacks a season ago. That's followed up with games against three lackluster pass defenses in the Washington Redskins, Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers.

Darren Sproles, Running Back, Philadelphia Eagles

It's pretty clear that the Eagles are attempting to get Sproles move involved in the offense this season. That shouldn't be considered too much of a surprise considering new offensive coordinator Frank Reich loves to utilize running backs in the passing game. After all, Danny Woodhead caught 80 of 107 passes thrown in his direction with Reich calling the shots in San Diego last season.

If you're looking at a waiver pick up in PPR-heavy contests, Sproles has to be that guy. Here's a dude that's proven over and over again that he can make an impact in the passing game. With the injury-prone Ryan Mathews acting as Philadelphia's starter, there's also a ton of upside on the ground here.

Rob Kelley, Running Back, Washington Redskins

We have absolutely no idea whether Redskins starter Matt Jones will see action in Week 1. He suffered an AC sprain in his shoulder early in the preseason and has not seen the field since. Kelly, an un-drafted rookie free agent from Tulane put up nearly 200 rushing yards and averaged 5.2 yards per rush in Jones' stead during the preseason.

The thought process here is clear. Pick Kelley up off the waiver wire now. See what happens in Week 1, and go from there. Should Jones' injury linger (a possibility), you'd then be ahead of the curve. If not, Kelley would represent an easy drop heading into Week 2.

Quinton Patton, Wide Receiver, San Francisco 49ers

Now considered one of San Francisco's two starting receivers, Patton will likelly be given an opportunity to receive a large amount of targets early in the season. He caught 30 passes in a watered-down offense last season. Now, with Chip Kelly leading the charge in San Francisco, the expectation here has to be that Patton will see a ton more play.

It's one of those waiver-wire adds you make with the thought of stashing a high-upside youngster deep on the bench. Should Patton prove himself worthy, you could easily move him into the lineup as a FLEX option. In reality, the PPR upside is real here.

Will Fuller, Wide Receiver, Houston Texans

The Texans showed a ton of confidence in this rookie first-round pick by sending Cecil Shorts packing as a part of their final cuts this past weekend. This likely means that Fuller will be one of Brock Osweiler's top receiving options behind DeAndre Hopkins.

If that's the case, the upside is going to be huge here. Despite issues with drops, Fuller seemed to build a solid relationship with his new quarterback during the preseason. Now, taking on a Chicago Bears defense that's been hit by injuries in the preseason, maybe take a shot with Fuller and see what happens.
