Fantasy Football Week 12 Waiver Wire Recommendations

Colin Kaepernick, Quarterback, San Francisco 49ers

For the second consecutive week, Kaepernick leads off this list. After starting out strong Sunday against the New England Patriots, this much maligned signal caller fell off big time at about the midway point of the game. Though, he was still able to put up nearly 250 total yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

Kaepernick has now put up six total scores and just one pick over the past three games, averaging a robust 311 total yards per outing during that span. In five starts this season, Kaepernick has finished no worse than 15th in fantasy points among his position. He's also coming off three consecutive top-10 performances. With games coming up against the Miami Dolphins and Chicago Bears, he might be able to pad these stats moving froward.

Wendell Smallwood, Running Back, Philadelphia Eagles

With both Darren Sproles and Ryan Mathews going down to injury Sunday, there's no telling whether Smallwood will be starting next week. Though, we might want to prepare for that eventuality. At this late point in the fantasy season, catching lightning in a bottle could be the difference between missing the playoffs althogether and watching your hard work pay off.

Once Smallwood got an opportunity Sunday, he was able to put up 79 total yards on 17 touches against an elite Seattle Seahawks defense. This came on the heels of him averaging 4.6 yards per rush in the first nine games of his rookie season.

Thomas Rawls, Running Back, Seattle Seahawks

Rookie C.J. Prosise suffered a shoulder injury after putting up an awe-inspiring 73-yard touchdown early in the first quarter on Sunday. He's expected to miss multiple weeks. This came the same day that Rawls was able to return from a broken fibula. Rawls proceeded to put up 88 yards on 17 touches against an elite-level Eagles front seven.

Now likely to resume the primary ball-carrier duties in Seattle, Rawls automatically becomes a RB1 option moving forward on the season. That means he should be picked up ASAP on the waiver wire.

Mike Gillislee, Running Back, Buffalo Bills

Gillislee makes a second appearance on this list, about two months apart from one another. Once again, it comes in the form of a LeSean McCoy injury. McCoy exited Sunday's game with a dislocated thumb. And while he's expecting to play next week, that most definitely shouldn't be taken for Granted. As it relates to this backup, he entered Sunday's action averaging 6.0 yards per tote. Gillislee then put up 72 yards on 14 attempts in McCoy's stead once the starter went down to injury.

Tyler Boyd, Wide Receiver, Cincinnati Bengals

With A.J. Green now likely sidelined for the remainder of the season to a hamstring injury, the Bengals will likely find themselves relying on this rookie even more. And if Sunday's game was any indication, he'll be more than prepared to step up. Boyd caught 6-of-8 targets for 54 yards in the loss to the Buffalo Bills.

With a 66 percent catch rate on the season, it's not overly optimistic to believe Boyd can somehow find a way to act as a decent WR2 or FLEX option with Green now out of action. Sunday's performance was a prime example of this.

Marquess Wilson, Chicago Bears

Active for the first time this season after dealing with a foot injury, Wilson was thrown into the action big time against the New York Giants. That was only magnified due to the suspension of Alshon Jeffery and injury to Kevin White. Wilson responded by putting up just one catch for 35 yards on four targets. Though, as we saw last season, he has the potential to step into a starting role and perform well.

Also important to note, tight end Zach Miller is now lost for the season after suffering a broken foot on Sunday. With him and Jeffery sidelined for the next three games, the targets will surely be there for Wilson.

Rishard Matthews, Wide Receiver, Tennessee Titans

There's no doubt that Matthews is now Marcus Mariota's favorite receiver in Tennessee. He caught nine passes for 122 yards against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. That's his third consecutive game with 60-plus receiving yards. And remember,  Matthew had tallied four touchdowns in his previous three games heading into this week's action.

Vance McDonald, Tight End, San Francisco 49ers

It's becoming readily apparent that McDonald is now a favorite target of the aforementioned Colin Kaepernick. Sunday against a good Patrots defense, this talented young tight end caught 3-of-6 targets for 46 yards and a touchdown. While the conversion rate isn't there, McDonald is sure to get targeted even more down the stretch. And with games coming up against defenses that have struggled covering tight ends, look for continued production here.
