Fantasy Football Week 16: Can Colin Kaepernick Win You the Championship

Can Colin Kaepernick win you a fantasy championship this year?  If you look at the remaining games on the 49er’s schedule I’m one to argue yes he can.   Kaepernick has a couple things going for him and we’ll cover them all in this article.  We’ll also focus more on his matchup against the Atlanta Falcons this week.  Because if you don’t win this week then you won’t care about next week now will you.

Kaepernick is one of the most talented young quarterbacks in the NFL today.  He has all the tools it takes to be a great quarterback in this league.  He came into the season as one of the most desired fantasy players and proved his worth week one against the Packers.  But after that big game he struggled in the following weeks.  But one of the reasons Kaepernick had trouble staying consistent this year is because he was missing his security blanket.

Michael Crabtree has missed the better part of the season recovering from an achilles injury.  With him and Mario Manningham going out with injuries it left Kaepernick with Vernon Davis and Anquan Boldin.  Davis and Boldin are good players but when they are the only two involved in the passing game it’s pretty easy for opposing defenses to shut them out.  When you look at the receiving stats for the 49er’s you’ll notice that Boldin and Davis are the only two involved.

A lot of people may say that surely Davis and Boldin are talented enough to put the passing game on their back.  This may be true for a team with a veteran quarterback.  With young quarterbacks in the NFL its all about keeping them comfortable.  Even though Boldin is a very talented receiver this is his first year playing with Kaepernick.  And even though Davis and Kaepernick are used to each other, with only two receivers involved in the passing game defenses would easily come up with ways to stop them.

With Crabtree back to health last week scoring his first touchdown of the season last week, the Kaepernick of last year and game one of this season will make an appearance this week.  With the receiving core back in tact Kaepernick and the 49er’s are in playoff push mode.  That emotion and urgency will no doubt help to produce high fantasy numbers.

But this week they’ll get a little help as they go up against a struggling defense.  Last week the Falcons gave up 381 passing yards to Redskins back up Kirk Cousins and a receiving core that…….well lets just say needs some work.  Kaepernick not only has better talent around him but he is also a better player than Cousins.  If Atlanta couldn’t keep Cousins from having a big game at home, they’ll be in for a doozy this week against Kaepernick in one of the final games at the historic Candlestick Park.  Kaepernick is in for a big game this week trust me, he won’t allow one of the last games, if not the last game, at Candlestick to end in disappointment.
