Fantasy Football Week 16: Top 25 Matchup Related Performances

In this second-to-final installment of our weekly matchup related fantasy performances you are going to see some really good defenses get beaten by what has to be considered mediocre fantasy football players. On the other hand, you will also see an alarming amount of Seattle Seahawks on this list after they destroyed a really good San Francisco 49ers defense on Sunday Night Football.

Most of the standard fantasy leagues completed this week, but that won't stop us at eDraft from honing our articles to those who are playing championships in Week 17. After all, we are here for you.

Quarterbacks
Player Team Total Yards TD INT PTS Opp. Ranking
Russell Wilson Seattle 200 4 1 23.7 San Francisco, #4
Aaron Rodgers Green Bay 353 4 0 32.9 Tennessee, #26
Matt Ryan Atlanta 304 4 0 29.7 Detroit, #14
Drew Brees New Orleans 445 3 0 29.7 Dallas, #21
Tony Romo Dallas 416 4 0 32.6 New Orleans, #31

Russell Wilson failed to throw for over 200 yards in yet another solid fantasy performance. He did, however, accumulate four touchdowns against one of the best pass defenses in the NFL. It seems that Pete Carroll and company know exactly what type of call to put in for the young quarterback when they are in the red zone. Don't expect this to change next week against the St. Louis Rams at home.

Aaron Rodgers and Tony Romo are on this list despite the fact that they picked apart two of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. When you combine for nearly 800 yards and eight touchdowns you deserve to be on this list, no matter the competition you went up against.

Speaking of competition, Matt Ryan had one of his best games of the season on the road against a pretty decent Detroit Lions pass defense. He tallied over 300 total yards and four scores in Atlanta's impressive win in Detroit.

Running Backs
Player Team Rush Yards Total Yards TD PTS Opp, Ranking
Marshawn Lynch Seattle 111 130 2 25.0 San Francisco, #6
Shonn Greene New York (J) 38 70 2 20.0 San Diego, #4
Jamaal Charles Kansas City 226 230 1 27.0 Indianapolis, #30
Reggie Bush Miami 65 107 3 28.7 Buffalo, #32
Ray Rice Baltimore 107 158 1 21.8 New York (G), #25

What can we say about "Beast Mode" that hasn't already been said? He continues to treat the San Francisco 49ers rush defense as a step child, having his third consecutive stellar fantasy outing against a top five front seven. It just seems that Marshawn Lynch has the 49ers' number.

Meanwhile, Reggie Bush and Jamaal Charles combined for 337 total yards and four touchdowns against two of the three worst rush defenses in the NFL. Again, they're on this list because of the ridiculous fantasy numbers that they ended up tallying.

Ray Rice is a true wildcard heading into Week 17. It seems that he is taking on a larger role in Baltimore's offense after it replaced Cam Cameron with Jim Caldwell at offensive coordinator. Rice's touches have gone up in each of the last three games. His 158-yard, one touchdown performance against New York was as solid as they come.

Wide Receivers
Player Team REC Yards TD PTS Opp, Ranking
Dez Bryant Dallas 9 224 2 34.4 New Orleans, #31
Roddy White Atlanta 8 153 2 27.3 Detroit, #14
Mike Williams Tampa Bay 7 132 1 19.2 St. Louis, #15
Doug Baldwin Seattle 4 53 2 17.3 San Francisco, #4
Calvin Johnson Detroit 11 225 0 20.5 Atlanta, #23

Check out my article from earlier today focusing on Dez Bryant. You will read a lot more detail in regards to his recent success for Dallas there. Roddy White upset me a great deal in the first half against the Detroit Lions on Saturday night. He was taking valuable points away from my man Julio Jones. Once Jones scored a touchdown in the second half it was all golden for me. I will say one thing. White has been the most consistent fantasy wide receiver in the NFL over the course of the last five seasons.

Calvin Johnson broke Jerry Rice's single-season receiving yards mark in another stellar performance against an overrated Atlanta Falcons pass defense. He caught 11 passes for over 200 yards, but failed to get into the end zone once again. Johnson has only tallied five scores all season long.

Tight Ends
Player Team REC Yards TD PTS Opp, Ranking
Delanie Walker San Francisco 4 54 1 11.4 Seattle, #5
Antonio Gates San Diego 2 44 1 10.4 New York (J), #2
Lance Kendricks St. Louis 4 119 1 17.9 Tampa Bay, #32
Kyle Rudolph Minnesota 3 39 1 9.9 Houston, #16
Jimmy Graham New Orleans 7 88 0 8.8 Dallas, #21

Despite a disastrous performance by San Francisco last night, Delanie Walker continued his hot streak with new starting quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Once Vernon Davis went down with a head injury in the first half, Walker became one of Kaepernick's favorite targets. That being said, his one score did come in garbage time late in the fourth quarter.

Lance Kendricks is an intriguing dynasty option moving forward. He seems to have gained a nice relationship with Sam Bradford and has had his moments this season. The young tight end tallied the only 100-yard receiving game for a tight end this week against a 32nd ranked Tampa Bay' pass defense.

Defenses

Cincinnati 4 2 3 1 10 Pittsburgh, #21
