Fantasy Football Week 4: Ranking the Wide Receivers

1. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons (MIN)

With injury concerns looming prior to the season, Jones has left no doubt as to who the top dog is in the Falcons passing attack. While solidifying his spot as a top five talent at receiver, Jones has amassed seven or more receptions in each of the first three games including his recent match up against pro-bowler Alterraun Verner.
Jones will face a Vikings secondary without a true number one corner, and feast, once again, on a unit without talent even close to his level.

Projected Statistics: nine receptions, 144 receiving yards, one touchdown

2. Jordy Nelson, Green Bay Packers (CHI)

Nelson has emerged as Aaron Rodgers number-one option at receiver, and will face a Bears’ defense that has allowed 699 yards passing in just three contests, one of which featured Geno Smith as the opposition’s starting quarterback.
Nelson is a superb talent with elite ability when he tries to go up and catch a ball, thus making him a nightmare on the outside. Though Bears’ rookie Kyle Fuller has impressed early on in the year, Nelson will give the Chicago corner his welcome to the NFL moment.

Projected Statistics: 12 receptions, 120 receiving yards, one touchdown

3. Antonio Brown, Pittsburgh Steelers (TB)

Being targeted at over 60% of his team’s passes, Brown has emerged as the overwhelming first option in the Pittsburgh passing game, and faces a unit that let Julio Jones go buck wild a week ago.
With three touchdowns and three games with over 90 yards per contest, it is hard to dislike Brown at this stage of the season.

Projected Statistics: eight receptions, 101 yards, one touchdown

4. Julian Edelman, New England Patriots (KC)

Outside of Rob Gronkowski Edelman is the lone reliable pass-catcher Tom Brady can still rely on. With 22 receptions through three games, Edelman should have his way with a depleted Chiefs’ secondary.

Projected Statistics: 12 receptions, 121 yards

5. Dez Bryant, Dallas Cowboys (NO)

Currently ranked as the seventh-highest scorer at receiver, Bryant posseses a unique combination of speed, size, and catching ability that can rival all-time greats. Facing a Saints’ defense with a lot on the line and little talent at cornerback, Bryant should thrive as the Cowboy’s top talent in a game they will be down in throughout.

Projected Statistics: six receptions, 121 yards, one touchdown

6. Calvin Johnson, Detroit Lions (NYJ)

The man they call megatron did not get his nickname on a fluke, averaging 15 fantasy points per game, Johnson is currently ranked 4th amongst wide outs and will continue to climb the leaderboards this week. Sure Dee Milliner is a rising talent at corner, but he is far from ready to tackle the best the NFL has to offer.

Projected Statistics: seven receptions, 110 yards

7. Victor Cruz, New York Giants (WAS)

Yes both Cruz and the Giants’ offense have struggled of late, but what about DeAngelo Hall scares fantasy owners in this match up? Cruz is a homerun hitter just bursting out a slump, and will have a tremendous game on Thursday Night Football.

Projected Statistics: five receptions, 147 yards, one touchdown

8. Alshon Jeffery, Chicago Bears (GB)

With teammate Brandon Marshall a little worse for wear last week against the Jets, Jeffery put on a possession receiving show with eight grabs for 105 yards. Now against a weak Packers secondary in what should be a shootout, expect Jeffery to continue his growth into one of the best pass-catchers in the game today.

Projected Statistics: eight receptions 95 yards, one touchdown

9. Michael Crabtree San Francisco 49ers (PHI)

Cary Williams couldn’t cover a queen size bed with a king size comforter, and Crabtree just happens to be a king size receiver. Averaging 10 points per game and 14 in each of his last two appearances, Crabtree will take Williams for a walk like the dog he is.

Projected Statistics: seven catches, 90 yards, one touchdown

10. Keenan Allen, San Diego Chargers (JAX)

Despite a slow start, faith remains high in the second-year receiver. San Diego is down to its last hope at running back due to injuries to Danny Woodhead and Ryan Mathews so expect Philip Rivers and company to shoulder more of the load over the next few weeks. A match with a Jaguars defense allowing 37.9 points per game and a league-worst 918 yards passing in three games should be a nice rebound for Allen’s fantasy prospects.

Projected Statistics: six receptions, 85 yards and one touchdown
